Rollcage/HANS Device Installers - Northeast?
Rollcage/HANS Device Installers - Northeast?
Does anyone have a recommendation for a rollcage installer in NJ, PA, NY?
I'm debating between the Autopower 6pt and a custom job - I'd like to be fitted for a HANS Device at the same time.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance

In Northern VA I'd recommend:
http://www.pipermotorsports.com/contactus.asp
or in PA:
http://www.phoenixperformance.net/
Neither will do anything with Autopower, but they do excellent roll cages and race car prep.

So I've done some research, talked to some installers and now I'm more confused.
Can you guys tell me about what you paid and what was included? I'm receiveng quotes from the low 2s to the high 7s - expectations aside, that's a tremendous gap.

I had my cage done at Phoenix Performance, it included:
Complete removal of interior
Fabrication of cage (6 point cage with NASCAR style passenger and driver door bars)
Fabrication of interior plastics and dash (SCCA T2 Rules)
Painting of cage and and interior tub (including main compartment and trunk)
Window Net and Installation
Harness Installation, Drilling, etc.
Seat Installation
Tow hook fabrication, Installation (cutting of bumpers, etc)
Interior Reassembly
SCCA Annual Tech and booklet
All said and done it was about $6500 but it is one of the most well made cages I have ever seen, I constantly get compliments on the build quality, but most of all I feel very very safe. A fellow SCCA driver, wtz, who recommended Phoenix to me, had some hard crashes in a Phoenix cage and walked away uninjured. Basically I paid for full SCCA T2 prep. If you are not doing SCCA this might not matter.
You really can't put a price on safety. If you are doing SCCA Phoenix is a very trusted name and you will most likely have no issues with tech, which is a plus. I would strongly suggest buying the best cage you can afford. In the NY area, Phoenix is the best. You do not want to risk your safety over car racing, period!
The cage quotes you are getting for 2000-ish don't include painting of the interior tub and cage and the fabrication of the interior. If you don't need the interior modified you should be able to save some cash. So telling us your goals might help. Call Kurt Omensetter directly at Phoenix if you use them, ask him how much just a cage, dash drilling and paint will be if you don't need the rest.
With that said, I have seen CJ and Martys cages from Piper and they looked excellent as well. I think they paid 3500 or 4500, I forget exactly.

Thanks for the detailed response - I feel better that I'm taking some of the right steps. I talked to Joe and Kurt from Phoenix, both standup guys, they estimated 7k.
Since I drive the Evo on the street for 3-5k mi per year (weekend warrior), and I am not competing in SCCA events, I wonder if the Phoenix cage is overkill in that it may not be safe for the street (no helmet).
Dollars aside, I want to buy the best cage for my purposes - 50/50 track/wknd warrior miles.
I know Bill Z 'tested' his Phoenix cage and it help up well.

Mine was just over 4k and I pretty much have what Charles has but I didnt have the nascar bars cut into my doors. His is probably a little safer as the bars are further away from you but I wanted to keep my door liners intact. I also had Piper install my "cut-off" switch. Send me an email address and I can send you several cage pics.

Has the NASCAR bars on a production car debate ever been settled? I know many racers have moved to the re-inforced x at the door. Bimmerworld, RRT and Piper had told me the x was safer than the N bars when I was seeking advice for my BMW e30.
To the OP, I'd say a full cage for weekend warrioring is overkill, I run the autopower 4-point. Though, I don't really want to test it.

If you are looking for a custom cage to suite your needs check out JM Fabrications in Hatfield, PA. www.jmfabrications.com

Kinda wish I knew that before I got my cage built, oh well.
