A Lancer brave enough
How'd the brakes hold up as far as fading and just overall performance? In that second pic, it looks like maybe you could've taken a slightly better line? Any more suspension tweaks you'd like to make based on how you did? (which for all intents and purposes against much faster straight line competition was rather well, congrats).

The second pic is only the first half of a 200 degree turn that increases in radius, coming off of a quick little left hander (making it hard to set up for the long right). It's hard to see, but at that point I am already out of the sharp part and into the sweeper. My line allowed me to carry a decent amount of speed in 2nd around the sharp part and then let the car drift towards the outside in the sweeper part of it. The problem was the slight off camber that makes the car feel like it's "floating" which took the wheels off the ground enough to make acceleration hard. Anything more than light throttle would be a futile spinning of the front tires (a spectacular display if nothing else). Any thoughts on that? I'll probably ask Rob soon, since he has run that course more times than I've driven the interstate 5.
And my only future suspension mod is a rear strut bar, but that's for autocrossing. For this road race, my Lancer with the Teins (10 front, 16 rear), Progress rear sway, RRM front strut, and 16x7s with Falken Azenis holding 49 psi cold all around felt like it was dialed in rather well. I would get a very slight 4 wheel drift most of the time, just a hint of oversteer and only got understeer when I entered a turn too fast and apexed early (habit of mine). So long story short, the suspension is dialed in, and I am ready to start working on the engine as soon as my wallet is.
And once again, thanks for the support.

Brian...if only i lived down south i would be right there in the turns with you...too bad there are no races in my neck of Calif.
it's great to see someone drive a Lancer the way it should be drivin'.
more people should follow your way.
anyone with enough money can go fast in a straight line but it takes real skill to be able to control your car in the turns
i may not be there with you on the track days but we have a kindred spirit every day when i drive the back ranch roads here.

Hey Trance. Button willow aint that far from you. Cut across the 46 from the 101 to the 5 and go a bit south and boom you are there. about as far for you as it was for brian.
oh yeah brian how is that hood now? miss all that cold air from your secret "COLD AIR INTAKE" and weight reduction?

Bravo!!!! Nice to see Lancer back in the news. I also noticed Urban you are running 16's. Looks better than I thought.
I can't wait to see what NA mods you can do to even the gap on the straights.
All of you pioneers are making it harder to decide what to do with this car, but nice to know it can be competitive whatever route we take.
Peace

Oh Urban why so high on the tire PSI?

Regular street tires don't go that high because they lose traction easier, but they still run about 35-45 psi cold in racing. The trick is to run just enough pressure to keep the tire from rolling onto the sidewall. Actually, I might even use a little more than 50 at the next autocross since the tires don't heat up much in a 60 second run.
Yeah Vince, I told Troie how close Buttonwillow is to his place, so maybe there will be 2 Lancers out there next time.
oh yeah, and if it interests you, I hear that a tuning magazine tested 15s 16s and 17s on the track and decided that 16s are the best for performance on a road course. Personally, I think that varies for different cars, but I find the 16s to be good for both track and autocross on my Lancer, and still allowing for bigger brakes if I ever want to.

My second track event with the Lancer, Arizona Motorsports Park September 27th. I went there for the Vivid Racing Bash, which had a great turnout the following day.

mmmmm....engine mods!
good driver skills add at least 10-20 hp in your car
