AutoX - newbie information

I'm interested in joining local autoX events (bay area). I've been to the SCCA bay area website, and it all seems so serious and competitive. I just wanted a place where I could toss my car around a bit, not a place where I would have to compete with anyone being over-serious.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Do I do Solo II?

(Edit: I won't be taking my xB, i'll be taking my weekend EG6)

The Bay region is one of the larger regions in the country. I hear they (successfully) run 300+ cars per day there. Follow the instructions on the website to get yourself registered and just go to an event. Solo is very novice friendly, and remember that only the guys who are really serious about it actually put enough time in to write websites. You'll have a blast.

http://www.baautox.com - lots of local info on SF bay area autocrossing.

there is the golden gate lotus club - they sponsor many autocross events down in Marina (montery bay)

Also look for the UFO events down in Marina. http://www.norcalufo.org/

both norcal UFO and the GGLC events are open to non-members and provide a more laid-back atmosphere compared to SCCA events.

come on out, I took a break this year, but next year I will be out in many of these events in my BBY EVO #52 sm

Autox is the perfect place to start racing. And you don't have to compete at all. I never cared about the competition aspect other than beating my dad when we'd co-drive the same car. Everyone who goes out to the full track and races with me and love it I always try to get them to do Autox, tons of fun, low cost, low stress on your car.

also forgot to mention the American autocross series http://www.americanauto-x.com/

these guys run in centeral cali at the old castlerock AFB in atwater. This series is a blast to drive. the courses are setup on a large 3000'x5000' square foot paddock, and it's typical to hit the top end of 3rd in these events.

If you can take the heat (literally) atwater events are pretty fun, but hot as hell in the summer sun...
