Wide Front Fenders

This has some serious overlap with Wide-Tire discussions and the exterior/show sides of the forum. However I want the Motorsports perspective of moving to either aftermarket wide fenders or spacing out factory fenders to allow for wide tire setups in track and autox use.

I would like the car to look good. But most importantly I want big tires to fit the car correctly and not wear the bodywork and or the tire when racing.

Voltex vs Chargespeed:
Is Voltex worth the money? Is the design better for clearance? Will they hold up to cones in AutoX?

Fender Mod:
How much clearance can I get? Will it be enough for >265s (or tallish) R Compounds?

Fender liners:
My current fender liners are essentially shredded at the fender lip on both sides. Should I replace them? What benefit do I get from them being in place? Will they even fit with wider fenders?

I've replaced about everything but my Voltex fenders after 7 years of abuse.

You can fit 285/30r18 under the stock body work with RTErnie's rear trailing arm, and spacing the front fender out. Voltex front fenders make it easier. How wide are you trying to go?

I thought we were able to 275's in the front with zero modification with the right offset wheel. As for fender liners, I've cut the front part of them and left the top intact with no issues. This weekend I'm actually going to try new fender liners, but I ziptied them to the ACD pump and oil cooler bracket to see if it's enough room

265? Hahaha, thats like put tires on and done.. We run 295s on stock fenders with a moderately aggressive pull. I've thought about doing the "dave fender mod" thing just to open up the back edge for air to escape as Im thinking about aero.

My car has 18x9.5 +35 wheels with 265/35's on it. All I did was roll the rear fender and pull it a bit. 10mm spacer up front to clear the strut. Still fits under the fender with negative 2-2.5* of camber, and it fits by a decent amount too. Could easily run more spacer probably.

Same here. My Voltex stuff takes some abuse and still fits excellent, no cracks etc.

With rolled but not pulled rear fenders and untouched stock front metal (fender liners are a different story), I've run 275 40 17, 265 35 18 and 285 30 18s on my lowered car. 265s were by far the worst to fit because of the height and rubbing issues at near full lock. Alignment matters for sure.

How were the 265/35r18 the worst? The 275/40r17 is taller and wider.

Maybe it was a difference in the way the specific tires ran? The 275s were Victoracers and the 265s were some form of full tread street tire (I can't remember which one). Both were on 9.5" wheels running a +20 offset (after spacers).

Street tires "usually" run narrower than a performance/race tire. Not sure how either didn't rub with +20 offset. the setup in my sig, 18x9.5 +35 Konig Milligrams with 265/35r18 Bridgestone RE11's, is pretty well flush in the rear, rolled and slightly pulled fender.

The wheels were +35, so same as you in the rear. +20 in front was net with a 15mm spacer up front. Victoracers don't run particularly wide and they may have been shaved (this was back in 2005 or so). The street tires were a track oriented tire, so they may have run wide.

EDIT: actually, I'm not sure whether I may have run a narrower spacer back then with the 275s. I had Tein RAs back then and may have been running a 10mm spacer, whereas with the later 265s, I may have needed a 15mm due to the Ohlins coilovers.

The only real figment concern is the rear anyways. Running the 35 offset in the rear makes sense now as to why it was able to fit
