I was plannin' on running straight C16 through that cat but since they are talkin about a sniffer, maybe I should consider vp109. lol

+1 on the party favors. Sam Adams is getting boring and it doesn't get me drunk enough for this thread.

In case you didn't see it. Here is you and your car in the latest issue of Option Magazine pure JDM ftw, lol. Of course, for the rest of us, it is a spy photo.

That's really cool Smogy! Thanks!

Unfortunately, that writing makes about as much sense to me as my ex-wife did...

I've got to write the darn things! :-)

But hey, I enjoy it. I also appreciate the feedback from all of our competitors.

^^ and Nik, you are truly doing a great job communicating with racers and making adjustments as needed. Yours is a thankless job with way more critics than fans. I know you cant make everyone happy but I appreciate your efforts to solve issues as they crop up. Many governing bodies are too arrogant to review their own rules. Your willingness to make the rules better is yet another reason why you guys are/will be the best Time Attack organization around.

Thanks again and keep it up!

Had lunch with my favorite smog guy the other day (not you smogy, my other smog buddy ). I asked him about the situation we (racers and organizers) are facing this year with the new cat rule in street class. He said that we should just drop the rule as it will have no meaningful effect on performance but will just end up costing racers more of their hard earned $$$ in parts, fabrication, tuning, up-keep, and special fuel while also creating a nightmare trying to police/tech the rule. I agreed with him but said that droping the rule is probably not an option...... Oh well.

The good news is that he did give me some emissions information that might be helpful for RLTA and the rules. He said that cars made after 1993 can not have more than 1.0% CO (carbon-monoxide) and no more than 100 PPM of HC (Parts Per Million of Hydro Carbons) at idle speed. He said that this is the pass/fail threshold and that any car with even a half-*** cat will meet those numbers. I also asked if a long duration and/or high overlap cam will bust these numbers and he said "maybe but doubtful". He also said that the cat can be anywhere in the exhaust system to function but it will be most effective if it's closer to the engine. He also said that a good running new car will have almost zero CO and HC in an ideal world.

Are there any knowledgeable experts out there who know if 1.0% CO and 100 PPM HC is a reasonable threshold to test for?

Anyway, this was just a little food for thought on the ol' cat topic that may help.

Topic: Tubular Front and Tubular Rear ends.. basically, chop everything off in front of the firewall, and construct a complete tubular front end on the car. Same for the rear...

I'd like to see arguments for or against allowing such modifications in the Unlimited Class...

I'm not sure if this is related or not, but what makes the infamous HKS CT230R Evo illegal for RTA but legal for Super Lap Battle? Although it resembles an EVO, I had a chance to look under it and I didn't see anything familiar underneath.

This could very well be related.....

Just a side note: Many American based teams are gunning for the lap record at Buttonwillow... But in order to do so, or at least have a legitimate shot at it, they will more than likely need to build cars to a similar level as the HKS car. Granted, I have received word DIRECT from a Yokohama representative who will remain anonymous, that the tires the HKS car was using at the last Super Lap Battle WERE NOT LEGAL.... But hey, it was Primedia's gig, if they want to pay to have a car come over and they want to say they hosted the event that had the fastest time attack car in the world at it.. by all means..... But I'm just sayin.....
