bsp / sm autocrossers chime in..
I recently wore out the stock pads and replaced them with very aggressive raybestos racing compound pads. They work great but have destroyed my front rotors in as little as 4 AX events. It was so bad that the dust (filled with iron from the rotor) would magnetically stick to my number magnet sheets. At the last event I even noticed metal slag filings stuck to the rotor!
Anyway, I went overboard with these pads and will be replacing the rotors and pads asap. As a daily driver car I want the best of both worlds but am willing to put up with the typical nuances of driving a competitive AX car on the street. The most logical solution to my problem seems to be this package (price is always a factor):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVT9d7eVUP8
basically dba 4000 slotted rotors with hawk ceramic pads and SB lines
what'yall think??
me+my car = local bsp champ, typically top 3 in PAX, usually lowest time of day.
thanks for the help

Stock rotors and Hawk HPS or HP+ is a good streetable setup. The HPS doesn't resist fading particularly well, but but works well when cold, which can be beneficial.
The SM national champ IIRC uses stock rotors/stock pads FWIW.

I've got RotorPros rotors and Porterfield R4S pads along with Stoptech SS brake lines on my BSP car.
The rotors are quite cheap and are still straight after 20k miles and the R4S still have lots of meat with the same mileage. Total # of autox events on this package is 40+. Great initial bite, especially when warm, and good feel from the pads.
SM Nat champ has 2 piece (Baer, I think) brake rotors and stock pads. Also note the SM and BSP Nat champs are RS's and do not have ABS. This is a big part of the reason they still run stock pads as too much initial bite will cause premature lockup.
IIRC, Porterfield now extends discounts to SCCA members.
As for the HPS, I personally think they suck. I put them on my Mazda6 DD hoping for a little better performance out of the brakes and did not get much. You don't get nearly the same initial bite nor the pedal feel as you do from the R4S. IMHO, of course.

wow, just checked and only 140 for front set! Just as expendable as pads! You got 40 events out of them and likely even more. Seems reassuring. Thanks
I am quite certain there is another very fast SM car also running the R4S as Evolutionary has raved about them too.
John
I tried those R4S at a medium speed autox..... they heat soak fast and are very dirty. I found mine crumbled quite quickly as well. But that wasn't your typical cone dodging course.

I use HP+ and am decently fast (SM), but I don't have anything to compare them to other than stock pads. They are better than stockers in all aspects, imo, but I never had problems with stock pads.
I mainly have them as a compromise for street, autox, and track - I use them for all 3. I know I could use dedicated pads for each type if I wanted to.

Aren't you guys getting any fade w/2 drivers? We noticed it on our 3rd runs on stock pads, until I went to ferrodo 2500s in '03 - still on the same pads. Of course all the Pro winners have Hawks on all their cars.
