Changing the O2 housing is not difficult. Removing the radiator is not necessary, but recommended, just so you don't damage the radiator fins. Removing the turbo is a waste of time.

Now you tell me. BTW the exhaust mani to turbo studs are a PITA.

I have the coated Buschur ported mani and coated O2 housing.

I changed out the manifold and O2 housing last month, the bolts from the O2 to the hotside were the worst! I lost some blood on those suckers.......

As for my car this year, I'm sticking with the JIC's except that I've had Muellerized work on them so we'll see how they do. I'm also shaving some more weight here and there and spent some time on the dyno Saturday. My tuner was able to get 280/262 out of it on Sunoco GT, I think that's about as much as I'll get. Probably still low but I'm closer to being in the ball park then I was! After that, I think I'm about done with what I legally can do.

Please forgive my ignorance, as I am just getting started in club racing. Is "STU" a class in SCCA, or NASA? It is wheel-to-wheel racing, not time trials, right? What other cars does the Evo compete with in "STU"? Thanks!

STU is an SCCA Solo (autocross) class. It is for 4+ seat cars with a Turbo displacment >2.0 liters or unlimited displacement. Popular cars are Evos, STis, E36 M3s, and RX8s.

- SCCA Solo
- STU is a street tire class, Street Touring Ultra
- Other cars are the STi, E36 M3, Rx8 and to a lesser degree SRT4, 2.5l WRX, Mustang.

Thanks. The stock 4G63 displacement is 1997 cc, so it is not >2.0 liters. Or am I just splitting hairs?

I do believe I did..... .....but when you're need of a re-build and JIC USA is un-responsive, what else is left?

Keep me poste don the zzyzx setup, I'll probably be ready for those in another year.

Correct you are. In fact the Evo would go one class down (STX) just from looking at the specs. However, it's a lot faster than other 2.0 liter AWD cars (e.g. WRX) so it's explicitly bumped to STU in the rulebook.

I just might take you up on that! I won't be doing any tours, just our local schedule, divisional and then Nats.

I think I'm going to miss you guys in STU....
(Looks at mounted 315 hoosiers)

Eh, you guys have fun

I ran the Full Race Manifold last year and and ebay SS o2 housing. Everyone is so concerned about low end torque and although it's important, if you look at a lot of our data logs from last year most of the time was spent above 4,000 rpms. Manifolds and o2 housings help on the big end and really that's where are cars are.
