Oh, no problems then. If you have THAT particular set then all is not lost as I made it sound.

Not sure what's been changed since they left MI, but at one point there was a lot of shock dyno work done and they were revalved to a custom spec. The middle of the adjustment range works OK to make litte tweeks to adjust for track conditions, but once you start getting out toward the end of the adjustment range the clicks don't do squat.

Sorry to scare you!

Andy sold the car Robert Love in Silver City, NM. Robert sold the units to me in 2006. I ran them in 2007 in STU then sold them to hokiruu the past fall to finance new coilovers.

They've been around.

Mueller just set the spring pre-load, heights and dampening and unfortunately, no I did not get the shock dyno graphs. The spring rates are my own so I can pretty much replicate everything. I'm not going to say the JIC's suck, they're not the greatest but they're not the worse things I've driven on either. Middle of the road would be the words I would use. Fingers crossed that next year I can jump up to some zzyzx's.

Or perhaps the lower airflow at higher road racing speeds negates this, and it IS more of a concern in solo?
Actually IMHO, it is quite the opposite. During SOLO events you spend a lot of you time waiting at the line with your car running and underhood temps rising. The speeds are slow and thus there isn't as much fresh/cold air coming into the underhood area. On road courses it should be less of an issue due to the high speeds and the blast of fresh/cold air directed to the underhood area. It has been documented that there are gains to be had with an intake and a tune but I'm using the stock airbox in STU.

The biggest discussion on our thread seems to be about shocks, since we are limited in suspension mods. It seems like ZZYZX has gained a lot of buzz with the EM series coilovers (especially in the SM and BSP thread). The use of 8611/8610 Koni in the EM series being a definate bonus but if it weren't of the recent price increase that Ohlins and KWs saw (probably due to the international exchange rates), personally, I'ld still think Ohlins sportlines were the best bang for buck. With the recent price increase I'm not so sure anymore. Too bad I can't drive to the level of car prep

Anyone care to share why they chose a particular setup?

Well the fastest STU evo last year was on ZZYZX competitions, so it seems clear to me that that combo can win. The EM sports provide nearly identical functionality but for about two grand less. All told, my setup came to about $3k including the discount for being a guinea pig. That's a lot cheaper than what the other winning evo's are running.

We'll find out soon enough. I'm getting set #1, I think...Should be here soon.

EDIT: oh and after I get the car sorted out I have to find a driver who can win. :-p

$3K? Did that include just the coilovers (spring and shocks)? Or does that also include camber plates and rear top hats and other misc items?

For everything. The zzyzx parts directly were only about $2k, but the extra bits add up. Camber plates, rear pillowball mounts, hypercoil springs, tender/helper springs; it gets up to 3 grand very quickly.

I was just looking at the STU field for the san diego tour and noticed an odd kuhmo entry.

SS RX7 r2: Do you know something we don't or are you going for the biggest contingency check.

Naw, just a on-line reg. mistake I heard Yok isn't offering any $ this year, so we may go with Dunlops for the tour, and hope for rain. My Codriver has to defend last year's win.

Are you making the haul out here? Hope to see you and Warr.

Thinking about it. I had 4 New Mexicans talked into going a few weeks ago, but slowly and surely everybody is pulling out. I'm waiting on my suspension to arrive.
