2008 STU discussion
When you can't touch boost that extra .5L comes in handy. If the STi had better gearing we'd really be in trouble.
If my memory serves me correct, the Pro course maintained a faster average speed while the National course's had higher peak speeds. I still would not directly relate 1st and 3rd place Evo finishes at the Pro to this. Neither Paulson, Otis, or Irvine attended the Pro. Of course we cannot take anything away from Corey's excellent driving performance and car prep at the Pro. Don't forget that this was Corey's first year driving full time in an Evo IX changing from his multi-championship Subie RS.
Everyone should take into account that if Jerry Irvine (Jake's co-driver) had stayed clean both days, he would have won Nat's by .198 over Paulson, in an MR no less.
Did anyone notice the spring rates on the Paulson/Otis STI at Nat's?
Dave
I didn't and I'm curious. I have detailed info about the 3rd and 4th place cars though...along with the 4th and 11th place car's datalogs
.
Steve used Jerrys car as a the benchmark when helping me set up my car over the winter. It's at least two seconds faster on 60s courses than it was last september. I'm not kidding. 2 full seconds. I'm running springs that many would consider "too stiff for street tires" (above 10k). That's pretty aggressive considering I'm 3000 lbs now with another 50 to drop.
Maybe I can hang with the big boys now!

Well it helps to have the lightest US evo ever.
I was 3075 lbs stock! No one believed me until I rolled onto the scales at HPT. 3076 with a stock battery, rotors, seats, an added radio, and heavy wheels.
I don't make any torque though...
