I just got my Evo a few weeks ago and just took it out for an autocross. I ran it with temporary paper plates on it! I got it to lift the rear tire just a bit on Bridgestone 050A pole positions as you can see here.

The previous owner put some Enkei RP03s on it. The look nice and I think they're pretty lightweight.. maybe?

I guess I need some better tires and... maybe from the look of the body roll, something with the suspension. I'm thinking KW Variant 3s. I'm strill trying to figure out what's going to be the best way to go.

I need some help in getting my car setup for STU. So feel free to PM me some advice and pointers on what you've had good experience with. Thanks all!

I'd skip the KW's and go to Ohlins DFV's. I have Ohlins Flags on my car now and the KW's aren't even close in damping control. No, really, they are that much better. I think you can get the Ohlins DFV's for about the same $ as the KW's. Call Myles @ GT Worx.

Thanks for the advice. I have heard great things about the Ohlins and they do seem to be used commonly in nationals. Do those come with a choice of springrates? If so which ones is the better choice? Thanks all!

The ZZYZX EM Sports will also blow away the KWs and are made by an Autocrosser and were on the fastest Evo in STU last year.

I had KW3's before I upgraded to the ZZYZX competition coilovers. The KW's are nice but the dampening provided by the Koni inserts of the ZZYZX units is in it's own league.

If you buy from Steve at ZZYZX he will likely advise you on springs rates based on data collected off the STU Evo previously mentioned.

Wasn't the fastest EVO in STU using the ZZYZX competition spec coilovers? I thought the EM spec just came out and are currently being tested.

I think my buddy bought your old KW V3 and we upgraded the springs on it and what a difference it made! That setup with stock Advan tires was as quick as some other cars with Neovas and Bridgestones during a MidDiv we attended for fun ...

Yes, but they're based on the same Koni inserts. I see no reason why you couldn't duplicate the results with the EMs. Biggest difference between the EMs and competitions is weight and adjusting droop. I'm guessing the setting for the droop used on the EMs was based on Jake/Jerry's car but you'd have to ask Steve from ZZYZX to be sure.

The fastest Subie at Nats was on KW's

Actually I choose the KW's solely for bang for the buck and have been very pleased with them. They even proved to be very consistent accross the adjustment range on a dyno. I looked closely at Steve's setup and at the time they were out of my price range. His new EM setup looks promising though.

Not as much difference as you'd think. There's a dirty little secret actually...

You'll never guess which is lighter....

The new EM's are lighter than the old Competition version. The new comps though...

The Ohlins are great and so are Zzyzx, but all KW's are not the same. Robispec KW's are a lot different than off the shelf items. Especially if you upgrade to Clubsports or Race versions, I would say they are at least as good as the other options. I used them for the first time this past weekend, and was amazed at the results. And they ride better than stock...

Finally, for those who think Robi may not have as much experience as others on AX set-up, I left them exactly as he set-up and got top pax in a very competitive Chicago region event. With no engine mods...

Fastest car at the Pro Finale was on Ohlins. Doesn't Max run on ZZYZX's?

To throw in the mix, this year's San Diego Tour and El Toro Pro were both won on single adustable Bilsteins.
