2008 STU discussion
The power looks reasonable, but I suppose my main concern is the boost graph. It peaks around 20.5 and tapers to a bit over 17. For whatever reason I thought that stock cars were a bit lower than that.
Tapering down to 16-17 Psi (1.1 bar) is normal on the EVO8s ... I'm a little impressed with the torque curve you have. If your test was on a Mustang Dyno in warmer weather, I would venture to guess that your car is making power in the upper range for a stock car.
Caffeine Slug: Powerout looks similar to that of a stockish EVO8, anywhere from 215WHP to 230WHP. Ofcourse the type of Dyno (Eg: Mustang, Dynojet, Dynodynamics) and atmospheric conditions make a difference.
What do you guys think about the new STU legal TRE rear diff?

Legal? Not Legal? Would you run it in STU and potentially take the chance of being protested?

Anyway, so long as TRE are following OEM service specs just going right to the limit, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. I would keep all documents and even the service manual printouts with you at National level events just in case but, again I see nothing wrong with this. In fact I may be doing this very soon
Now just to figure something out for us early VIII owners that have the suck *** front differential
I'm surprised that they don't make you use only parts that have the anti-tamper cabling wrapped around it like they do for the two-stroke shifter carts.... WTF?
Seriously guys, the STU version is legal. Again, legal for your class and demand that it be taken apart and measure everything twice before and after every race.
Will you get more lock-up? Hell I don't know.... if your stuff is worn out, then yes I would expect it to work better.
I'm only offering the STU version for those who need their rear differential freshened up for STU.
If you have questions please ask me.

The only for this to be legal in STU would be for all the parts used to be OEM parts, not OEM specific but, direct OEM parts. If they are and just taken to the limits of the factory speficifations, than all is good.
I assume the same can be done for the front differential as well than? That would be a benefit to those of us with the suck *** early VIII front differential.
The front LSD has a completely different design. On the 05+ EVOs it's a Helical LSD not a mechanical clutch LSD. The 03 EVOs have a open diff with spider gears. So the same wouldn't hold true. The wear on the clutch plates of the rear diff over time can affect its locking preformance.
If your familar with the class, it is very much like that. Very, very strict, especially when it comes to stuff like this since it would be very easy to slip in an aftermarket part here and there to gain an advantage yet be nearly undetectable

It's legal, that's why I call it the STU version. All factory in every way. As for the front diff, I guess the stock open (non limited slip version) could be shimmed a little on the tight side while the factory limited slip could maybe have the thrust surfaces modified to improve the limited slip action but I don't know if that's allowed in STU

You tell me what you want and I'll do it.
... as much as we make a big deal about it online, all of us were really easy going during the event.
hey guys.... i just joined stu at the last event of last year (07).... i'm looking at getting the direzza z1 star specs next week (i've been on miserable toyo proxes4 for about 2 years now), and am thinking about the pic select coilovers (10k/12k spring rates, even though it's a daily driver)....
now i don't know much about the classes, but when i asked one of the regional scca board members what class i should be in with act extreme clutch and hks bov, he put me in stu.... is that correct??? it seems the bov would be border-line on the boost modulation rule and the first page said we are limited to stock clutches....

Technically the clutch and BOV would put you into SM _IF_ people care but they usually don't locally with your few non-STU mods. It depends on your region and how competitive you are. It was probably appropriate for the level of local competition at that event though, especially if there are fast guys in SM in your region. The SSQV is very conspicuous and also will not help you go any faster (maybe even run poorly if it's vented to atmosphere), so you could ditch that for the stock one, not say anything about the clutch and be more or less sleeper STU.
Edit: Oh and you will probably love the Z1 Star Specs, especially coming from your Proxes4s.

in our region we are piloting an SMS (street mod street tire) class for people who are illegal for STU but are on street tires. Its a very popular class here as alot of people show up who have done that 1-2 mods that blow them out of STU....

.... I keed I keed!
