hokiruu: You are only thinking about the EVO/STi, think about how much Mustangs and other such cars could improve with an upgrade to the brakes. While not all Big Brake kits will give you shorter stopping distances, stock brakes on certain model cars are known to perform better, they do provide more consistent braking under high friction/heat conditions. I just see it as an added expense, that I don't care to much for. Oh well ...

Good point Suraj. You're right I was only thinking about the Evo and STi. I'm with you on this one, and not in favor. I guess it's too late though.

I can't see how an open brake rule would be bad for STU. The SM guys haven't felt the need to go with bigger brakes. I don't think it will have much effect on the price of entry because the potential gains just aren't there for the dominant cars -- even at the highest levels.

However, if it helps make anything else competitive (muscle cars, BMWs, etc.) then how is that not good for the class?

It's not about making a car be able to break harder. Even your average stock Neon can put enough braking torque through the rotors to lock up the wheels. This rule is solely for participation purposes - so cars that have upgraded their brakes for road course use can still play in ST . . .

Check out the Perrin HFC - I've had it for 30,000 miles and no CEL. really good product too and save a good 2-3 lbs. over the stock cat.

That's what I'm saying. It doesn't do anything bad for the class. I can only help by bringing in cars that don't have adequate brakes.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how that happened. Someone "talked fancy" to me, and next thing I know I'm on a freaking 5 hour conference call!

My first proposal....to re-class all stupid Subaru's.....went down in flames. But I tried!

LOL! Mad props for trying to get those damn Subies reclassified. At least you tried. You next step you be to try and put a tire limit on the Subies, 195 width and lower

You totally got bamboozeled Actually I shouldn't make fun of that fact as I keep getting suckered in every year to do crap for the local club. Event Master, run novice school, etc ... sigh

Better brakes allow for better stopping (so you don't crash into a tree or the registration trailer) and have less fade (so you don't crash into corner workers or timing gates) equals a safer environment for all.

In fact, maybe they should be mandatory.

Stock brakes are known to provide better stopping distance than Big Brake Kits in most cars (unless in a rare case they came with horrible brakes from the factory). In auto-x you are very unlikely to get brake fade, given the speeds and the short course. Brake fade happens primarily on the race tracks at high speeds, where the brakes get repeatedly abused for long sessions.

It just unnecessarily makes the class more expensive, IMHO.

WHADDA YA THINK??
to answer this ? i ran on some 245 Direzza Z1 star specs (SM car) this weekend and finished second in pax and fourth overall, second fastest time by a door slammer, beating out guys that would normally beat me by about a second or so, was running on 275 V700's before

700s or 710s? I would guess the 700s wouldn't have time to heat up, similar to RA1s.

EDIT: it's been a while but I remember hearing that the esctas take longer to warm up.

not the victoracers

also, i think my suspension might have been setup for street tires, street/track setup by mueller, as the car just felt aswesome and went where i wanted it to go. Before the car would push mid corner when giving it gas, yesterday the back would come out and then it would just go
