To keep this thread on topic, kudos go out to Rich and Tim for their placing in STU, what a strong class. Having had my hands on Tims car in regards to parts installation I was really happy to see him do so well against Rich. I think Tim left some time out there in regards to car development and mods, we will have to work on that.

Maybe the evo really does have a chance at a national title in AS.

I owe some big thanks to Brian for helping set-up the car and also Edwin from the Snake River for letting me run his wheelset and Dunlops for the weekend.

Regarding AS I agree the Evo's/STI's have a advantage in the prosolo format... but not a .5 advantage per side. (especially against a driver like Scott McHugh) Brian was peddling that car well, and had around a 1 second advantage right from Saturday morning runs.

Lastly it was nice to meet you Rich, and good luck the rest of the season.

Tim,

It was good to meet you and Brian. You guys drove great.

That was the hardest event I've ever ran. I think we both left time out there.

Now and after talking with Isley about the Sportscar street tire test, I wonder if the new full tread street tires have more grip than shaved?

Rick

You know. I was thinking the same thing. My highest sustained Gs on the yokohamas were runs 10-20.

Hey Rick -

I'm glad to hear you were working hard - I know I was. When it the challenge came up I felt drained.

Also agree time was left out there, have to love Prosolo's after 12 runs and it still isn't right. The heat was a factor to me, the car felt very different in the afternoons compared to the mornings.

That's really interesting about the shaved tires... Not that you've bought many snow tires in southern cal but the compound is very soft initially then traction drops off well before they're 1/2 worn. I wonder if the manufacturers are adopting this approach to give traction but still provide some rigidity?

Guys I am putting upper camber plates on this weekend. I would like to mark both daily and race alignments on the plates.

I am thinking that I will keep my normal -2.0 zero toe for daily.

But what should I put race mark at ? shoudl I just jam them in as far as they go ? Since toe will move with camber and I think I would like to have 1/8 out....

my setup so far is:

GTWORKs/RCE Springs
Whiteline rear bar at medium
Re01r's

TIA

Street setting looks good. For the race setting, set the front camber to anywhere from -3.2 deg to -2.6 deg depending on your other suspension components and desired handling. You are correct toe does move with camber but on the EVO when you increase -ve camber (or decrease it eg: going more -ve depending on how you look at it) the car ends up toeing in. So that means you have to mark the tie rods on the steering rack and loosen and rotate them to either bring them back to zero or toe them out. Vice versa when you switch back to street settings.

Fun isn't it?

Remember. Adding negative camber adds toe in ---> bad. Moving from ~-2 to ~-3 degrees of camber will add a crapload of toe and can actually make the front grip worse unless you zero it out again. When you adjust the camber, adjust the toe. I bought toe plates and adjust it everytime I change something. Usually though, I just drive around with a bunch of front camber and deal. There isn't actually that much extra wear if you get the toe spot on.

hmmm. Well if I got out on limb here and say put 2.25 -2.5 for street use and 1/8 then crank them in to 3.0 at zero toe ? is that even doable ?

I have driven cars with -2.5 daily its not too bad but they are very twichy and tend to tramline...

It depends on what you want. The easiest thing is to just take a little grip out of the rear and be happy. If you're coming to nationals, then you want max grip and will want more camber and a little toe out. Toe plates are a $40 tool and a no brainer. For local events, just run

-2.5 camber front
-1.25 camber rear

0 toe all around.

Provided you have enough spring and a competitive 245 tire, the car will be nicely balanced.

EDIT: tire wear will be reasonable too. Just rotate often.

The whole point of having a street setting is so that you have less -ve camber and 0 toe, so that you aren't killing your tires and darting over bumps. You may just want to consider a compromise setup since you haven't made the transition to coilovers, maybe - 2.5 deg camber with 0 or minimal toe out.

Doh! Donour beat me to it ...

I think you guys have ESP

I appreciate the help. One of my big things about going into STU was the amount of effort on race day. Like changing tires. If ST says anything about a driver its that they hate changing tires

I dont have national expectations although I will probably upgrade to coilovers in the off season to kill the body roll and knock off some time while I am at it.

Adjusting the toe under the car at the events doesnt sound like fun, and given my girly arms I am bound to not snug it enough (dont laugh my sway bar nearly fell off).

I think I will set them at 2.5 with an 1/8 out. I will measure and see if I can go to 2.75 at zero. If I cant then I am done at 2.5. I think that will greatly help the outside edge of my tires. I am -1.0 in the back maybe a 1.25/0 bump for fun.

Then when the weather turns I will bring the car back to 2.0/0 and 1.0/0

I will google up the toe plates for the off season change.

Thanks for the help guys!
