As you know, I'm running the Ohlins DFVs (same setup as Danny's) so the settings/ rates are much softer than yours, which should have aided in wet weather grip but, I was really unimpressed with the Z1s in the rain.
Otay...

You coming to any Susq or DC events in Sept/Oct?

Some of these responses were relative to street performance in the rain. Dunno about that, but I think I have a good data point from the Milwaukee National Tour if we're talking about autocross conditions. Look at Saturday run times, and you'll get an idea of what I think of Z1 wet performance.

I only have 2 wet runs on the Z1s so my input is somewhat limited plus my other rain tire was a full tread RE-O1R so its kind of hard to compare.

Dave, I'm going to try and make one more AI event this year, I love FedEx!!!

Adam, I drove home in pouring rain (and tornado touchdown within 5 miles of Fedex) the same time Dave did on that day that Dave mentioned; also in 4/32nd shaved Star Specs. I made it home without drama, but it wasn't a comfortable experience.

We will have a set of full tread star specs for rains at the Nationals in addition of the normal 4/32nd setup. I don't think there is any doubt that Star Spec is the tire to have for STU Evos based on what we saw during the past few months. I have never driven full tread star spec in rain, but I would guess that's probably the fastest rain tire also. See you at the next AI event after Nationals.

Good luck at Nationals you luck bastard I would love to head out there but, between my two boys and the one in the oven my wife put an end to my plans pretty fast!! Oh well maybe next year, or the year after, or..... Are you running the Evo or the Dieman? I know Mike is running the Evo but, wasn't sure what you were planning on using.

As far as the Z1s in the rain, I would tend to agree with you. Given that the Z1 is the tire to have right now in the dry I would imagine they will be pretty good in the wet as well.

See you at FedEx in October.

What exactly are you looking to buy? A second stock 06 IX SE? I may sell my STU prepped IX MR after nats is why I'm asking and want to make sure I'm not missing an opportunity.

no, i'm evo-less currently - i've been trying to find a stock IX SE to build up, but all the ones i've been finding are heavily modified.

in all honesty, i don't have much interest in the IX MR, mainly because of the tranny. not in terms of autox, but in terms of tracking - i've heard horror stories of them blowing up once taken to the track and driven hard [which is ultimately where i think it's going to end up - and i'd rather not do a swap right out of the gate!].

thanks for the heads up though!

My RS is going up for sale tomorrow. It's already built and it is Nationally Competitive. STU legally modded so it's primarily suspension stuff. I've only
used the best parts that I could find and I also still have all the stock bits.
I'm not going to have a much time to A/X next year so I've ordered a more
sedate daily driver.

dave, i'm well aware of the success you've enjoyed in your car! but i'm going to have to daily drive it too, which means that i just don't think it'd be practical for me. if only i had deeper pockets..

that said, i'd be curious to know what you're looking to get for it though feel free to PM me or copy a link to your ad (if you end up posting one here or elsewhere).

Well I had been doing so well at not coning this year. When I decided to wipe out some moving at second gear nearly on the rev limiter.

Needless to say I broke a clip on the front splitter. I think its a clip. I was just going to put some heavy black vynil tape behind it.

Is there a better way to re-inforce this splitter. I mean I hit that cone going fast but was kinda hoping that I wouldn't damage the car....
