i think it was more a question of whether or not you can have installed IF boost is left stock. i'm sure the answer is still the same, though.

That's why I said "they way it is controlled." It doesn't matter if you actually change the boost levels, you can't change the boost control system in any way. Even doing something like shortening the length of a vacuum line (for example if you need to replace one and the new one isn't exactly the same length) is technically illegal.

You're right it is the same. Doesn't matter what you set it to...it's not a legal part. Too bad!!!

Edit: Oops donour answered the same time I did.

Lol another thread participant off to the SM thread

Do other STU guys get HP envy like me ? I mean my car is making fair power but still well under 300WHP. I found that after the TBE and tune that I had to completely change the way I drive, more power = more brakes. On the street I drive like miss daisy for mpg and law enforcement.

But when I read about how easy it is to make 330-350WHP its like holding candy out in front of me. Prolly would never need or use, but man!

I keep thinking that I would like the gains of a new intake (if I could get one that doesnt howl) or an 02 housing if I could get one that doesnt creap. I cant remember what pieces arent we allowed change besides boost is it the hoses to intercooler ?

I mean its a bad comparo but what do most STU cars make for power on a Mustang dyno ?

Its all about handling but its almost a shame to leave that much capability untouched.

No kidding. I've had a set of cams, cam gears, and a test pipe sitting in my garage for over a year. It has taken some pretty severe restraint to not put them in -- espeically in New Mexico where I don't make full boost until 4500 RPM in 2nd.

What gains? At this power level, I don't think you're going to see any gains over the stock airbox. I'll all be within the run-to-run variation.

or an 02 housing if I could get one that doesnt creap.
Hey. Think of boost creep as STU legal boost control. :-p

You can change anything before the turbo inlet.

Its all about handling but its almost a shame to leave that much capability untouched.
Here's another thing to think about. Because it is sort of heavy, the evo is VERY tire limited on the 245s. Therefore losing weight benefits doubly. Not only is like gaining more power, but it is like getting more tire too. I say spend the money on getting lighter. What we need is a field of 2900 lb evos. That'll give the STis something to be scared of.

I don't think you can go to a hard intercooler pipe in STU... otherwise I'd be all over it because the stock UICP on the X was designed by a monkey who trained under Dr. Nick.

Seriously, two diameters of flex hose to a 3"->2.5" reducer to the inlet. Sigh.

Weight reduction is nice but just like any other modding it can drop below the tasteful level real quick.

ahh, gotcha. i knew deep down it wasn't legal even @ stock boost, but was holding out hope that it would be alright. seems every car i want to buy has that damn MBC part on it

guess i'll have to spend that 5 minutes swapping it off but i'd rather not have to get a re-tune right away without any of my eventual STU power mods on

You don't _have_ to. Take the boost controller off, flash a stock map onto the ECU, then go about your merry way until you are ready to get tuned.

You mean from the fact that every evo with a boost controller and tune makes more power then you for a fraction of the cost? No, why would I be envious?

Try driving a ~400whp EVO (mustangdyne) on Hoosiers that weighs under 3K # and you'll be hooked! Say Bye Bye to street tires!!

I've heard of some STIs using this loopholes. You could limit the size of the wastegate hole in the O2 housing so the wastegate can't flow as much air . . . ?

Can you replace the OEM intercooler pipe couplers with silicone couplers?

No sir. The rules state that nothing can be altered past the turbo in the intake system. Adding the silicone couplers would be considered changing the system.

How come no one is mentioned the Pro Solo finale results??? The rain made for some interesting results.

If interesting means I sucked in the rain, then you're right.

Congrats to all who did well. Kinda cool, talked to about 6 evom members that are on the
motorsports board today.

It will be interesrting to see how well we stack up in tomorrow's practice in dry conditions.
