2008 STU discussion
Good to see everyone again! Congrats to Colin! Glad you decided to go this year! Pat will be in Milwaukee with the Evo Sunday looking for you.... lol
My car is for sale if anyone is interested. Still working on an official post with all the details and pics, but it had fast raw and clean time on Wednesday (for those writing off the MR as too heavy, etc).

Valerie Lieber won XPL in my car. Andy and I are sitting in 1st and 2nd in SM after day 1 - so we'll try our best to bring home some more hardware for the EVO guys!
Congrats to ALL the folks who battled through a REALLY cone-intensive couple courses this year
. . . I know many class titles were decided by who was clean or not . . .

When I ran the 40.7+1 first run on day two, I thought -based on the number of obvious and simple mistakes on that run- low 40's were easily in the bag... Just reflecting back, I see that I was in an incorrect state of mind and simply too worried about not hitting cones rather than drive as I always do (the irony). The disappointment will take a while to get over, but I will be back next year
Good job Colin and everyone who did well. It was nice to meet everyone.
Aytinc
I did think it was very interesting that after day one, the top 5 were all single driver cars and after day two, 4 out of top 5 were singles.....
Aytinc, that was tough, don't do what you did Wednesday next year!

Nice meeting and seeing everyone again!! Put some new faces to some recognized names. Had a great time despite problems.
I don't really have an explaination...just F'd up. Made a big mistake on each of the three runs Tuesday. (Oh yeah, going to first gear at the top of second gear results in a slower time.) Wish I could blame it on my injury, but can't. It hurt, but didn't affect my performance. Just made mistakes...that's how it goes sometimes I guess. I felt better after Wednesday, but too late for anything other than not going home skunked.
Chris had a raw deal. Just going a little wide on Tuesday cost him a run that was a second faster. (Per MaxQ) What should have been a couple tenths mistake was a second and a half to 2 seconds mistake, and he got robbed by the sand. I was sure wrong about the sand...it sucked!! Coning his Wed. fast scratch time of the day, along with the slider on Tues cost Chris a very low numbered trophy.
STU is a great class, great competition and drivers. I'll think about it over the off season and try to find a way to stay in the class if possible. Nice to see Colin take it, even if he is a punk Bridgestone toadie in a Subaru!

See you Sunday Colin!!!

I wish I could get my desktop working so I could install the firewire card I bought to upload video from my camera. I had a blast, didn't expect to win this year. I was just hoping to some out and get a top 5 and was really hoping to be in the top 3. I was in the right mind set on Tuesday and went out and did a couple solid runs. I pushed too much on my third run, but there was for sure a 42 second run on the west course. I was very freaked out on Wed. having never been in the lead at nationals going into day 2 (or ever for that matter, 4th was the best until now). I was going to go out on my first run and get a clean one in and I went and ran over the cone going out during the first offsets like an idiot. I wasn't concerned about that cone at all during my walks. I knew going into the second run it had to be clean and I was lucky enough to go faster as well. Third run I knew being a 1st driver that I had a ton of guys behind me just waiting to take the lead and I got late entering the long slalom and made it worse by giving it gas at the wrong time while trying to recover (again, wish I could post videos).
Anyway, it was really great to meet everyone this year. I am hoping to have the car prepped more for next season and will be there to defend next Sept. wherever nationals ends up being.
-Colin
P.S. See you tomorrow Pat! Like I told everyone on Tue and Wed, Pat has been beating me all year locally so we will see what happens.

What were the results of the tires mentioned in the OP for 2008?
I'm looking to get some STU tires for next season and will probably be buying a used set of one of these but want to see what worked and what didn't. Keep in mind this will be my second season so I'm not going to nationals or anything, but I definitely need better tires. Any comparisons or input from the season would be appreciated. Thanks.
Yokohama Advan Neova AD07
Dunlop Direzza
Bridgestone RE01-R
Falken RT-615
Hankook RS2 Z212
Toyo R1R (coming in the future)
Kumho XS (coming in the future)

Dunlops. Period. They are cheaper than the Bridgestones and Yokohama's and MUCH more grippy than the Kooks, and Kumhooooz. The Toyo's will wear off your Evo in 1 event. So...Dunlops. 245/40R17.

Anyone know how many STU cars in the top ten at the Solo Nats were on Dunlops? Of course Colin was on RE01s, was Geoff on Yoks?
Also did anyone notice if STX was using them?
Thanks,
Rick
That was me. We had planned on running the Yoks if it was cool out. We did some testing and were faster on the yoks in the cool and faster on the dunlops when it warmed up. It was warm enough at nats to make the call to run those.
