Hey guys...long time listener, first time caller.

Kinda off topic, but STU related. Just wondering what you think of the STU proposals out there for comment: Delete the single turbo restriction, and allow E46 M3's.

I have no problem with either. Cars like the 335i and 135i would fit well in STU. I have doubts whether the E46 M3 will actually be any quicker than the E36.

From what I witnessed in capable hands the 335i was faster than the e46's at our last event. Kinda struck me odd. At the track I would take an E36 any day over an E46.

Welcome Pat,

It would be nice to get more diversity in the class. I think they all would be a decent fit, especially the 135i. Whether or not they would be competitive remains to be seen. All are pretty fat, but heard the 135i can get down to 3200-3300lbs in STU trim.

What is your opinion?

PS. Are you and Chris teaming up again this year in STU or BSP?

Dave

They would definitely get the the fat tire thing. Plus the tuners can get pretty massive gains from the turbos (i wonder if that is with or without a BC, which would bump them).

Thing is I wonder if they could get light enough amd get that power to the ground with two wheels, or arent they peg legs ?

oh well bring them on! anyone can buy it but can they drive it

I'd welcome them to STU.

Welcome to the site Patrick! The more the merrier I say ... what are your guys's opinions on allowing the RX8s and M3s to roll their fenders inner lip to allow them to run the maximum tire sizes allowed for 2WD cars in STU?

I'm for it, as long as they let everybody play -- no special exceptions, let everybody roll. Just because I don't need to doesn't mean that I shouldn't be allowed to.

I have one question for your guys. I am still relatively new to SCCA rules as I dont run them much. But I talked to somebody that hinted that tire size regulations might be changed in the next year. I want to know if this is just BS or not. He told me that they were thinking about raising the maximum size tire (ie: 255 or 265 for awd atleast) to help it not be such of a jump to BSP. Does this have any truth at all or was he just blowing smoke up my a$$???

There has been talk about tire types being changed for a long time but I doubt anything will happen. At one time I believe it was supposed to affect stock class ... either way raising the limit from 245 to 255 or 265 is the least of one's worries when making the jump to BSP. Alot of others things have to be changed to make the car more competetive. But who knows ...

Me personally with some of the power some STU evo's make it is quite easy to overpower 245's, especially with our weight. With 265's allowed that would help alot. I just wonder if there is any truth to that "rule change"

Do you mean flare the fender? We can already roll the lip in STU.

That's what I was guessing he meant -- flaring and pulling. The E36 needs some real work to get 275s in the back.

Sorry I just realized rolling the lip is allowed ... what about flaring? What are your guy's thoughts on that?

I don't know that we will see a larger tire for AWD cars anytime soon.

The e36 has a tough time fitting 275 tires on the back. And as I have heard, the RX8 is short on torque, so putting a large tire on the back might hurt it.
