285-30-18 Hoosier vs. Kumho
I go my hands on a tire for test fit of the Hoosiers so I figured I would write up a little comparison.
Tires are 285-30-18 size.
Inflation pressure 35psi.
Mounted on FN01RC 18x9.5.
Both tires are used.
Hoosier A6
Width = 11 1/8"
Dia = 24 13/16"
Kumho V710
Width = 10 3/4"
Dia = 24 9/16"
Difference:
Hoosier = 3/8" wider
Hoosier = 1/4" taller
The biggest differences seem to be:
1) The hoosier bead is very "deep". Meaning the tire sticks way out from the bead and the sidewall appears closer to vertecal and less "pinched" than the V710.
2) The hoosier looks to have less rounded shoulders. This is difficult for me to see since both tires are defintely worn.
3) The hoosier is taller!
Here's a few pics to illustrate what I saw.

Thanks. I know there are people out there running them on 18x10, even maybe on 18x10.5 wheels. I want to know who specifically is running them, because i would like to ask them a few questions. If anyone knows who they are, or if someone reading this is one of them, let me know. Thanks again.

Great write up John! Definitely interesting info. Does it look like the Hoosier has an improvement in overall "footprint" over the 710's?
I just picked up a set of the 285 V710s. It should be interesting running on them this year

As for your tires...did you get the old compound or new compound?
Also does anyone know if the actual look of the V710 285-30-18's will change? From what I am reading the newest tires have a very square sidewall while the existing tires will just get the new coupound and maybe not the new construction.

I ordered on Thursday. The tires were out of stock, and TireRack hasn't even charged my card for them yet
I don't know what compound they are, honestly. I would guess they are the new type as they're out of stock now.
I hope to be able to give you and Dan some competition this year. I wonder if Kevin will be coming out with his new addition coming...

I'm running the Hoosiers on 18x10 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear. The rear tires are a little pinched, which rounds off the contact surface, so the outer 20mm (inside and outside) doesn't wear, because it barely touches the pavement, but you want less traction in the rear anyway, so that's fine. The main problem with the staggered wheel size is you have to do a tire remount to rotate your tires front to rear. I should have done that before my front Hoosiers corded on the edges (inside and outside). My rears still had the molding nubs on their edges. :-)
