tire choices for road racing

Hi guys!
what is your suggestion fro 18-9" 35 off set with 15 mm spacers. if i would like to use the Toyo R888 or the R1R? wich size would be the best for that? I like the 255-35-18, but if you guys have a better idea, would help me alot.
Thanks.

I think you first need to decide if you plan to run an r-comp (R888 - 100 UTQG) or a street tire (R1R - 140 UTQG). Then, based off the sizes available, narrow down your choices. They may have the same sizes available, of course, but make sure.

I think a 255/35-18 is a pretty good size that will fit very nicely on a 9" rim and will probably get away without rubbing or any fender rolling. Not sure on the 15mm spacer, though...

stay away from spacers. buy a rim that fits.

are you going to use these tires for everday driving. If so that's a pricey tire for normal driving. Just a thought for you.

No it is not a daily driver. I was yesterday to get a wheel aligments to Robispec. And the spacers are neccesery sadly for me.
So story short, i spend my money already on rims. I got the Volk CE28N's and the size is 18-9' and 35 off set. So i dont have a money to get a new set.
I like the R888 , but some race, like RTA. i will not fit in the street tuner category with that. So here is my debate: get a cheaper 140 utqg rating tire for RTA and "daily drive" /car shows etc/ and get the R888 for regular race.
But then i'm thinking , instead R888 get a better slick?
If slick, wich is your recommandation ? Kumho v710 or somethging simular?
Also the 255 -18 35 seems okey, or i can even go higher with the slicks? Worth to get a wider one ,like 265 or 275 on 9" rims, not too wide?
can you guys give me some feed back on the tires too? if i dont ask too much.
thanks Rob

Robevo, it all depends on what you want to do with the car. If you want to compete in RTA street class, then get the R1R or RE-01R in the 255 width. If you want to compete in Modified while having the fastest possible tire for your setup in RTA and other events, get a V710, Hoosier R6, or something else like that. Be aware that the V710 will give you NASTY lap times for time trials, but it will NOT hold up more than a few laps at a time, since it is a very soft autocross tire.

Spacers are fine - don't sweat it. I have 25mm spacers...

When you say RTA, are you referring to the Redline Time Attack? If yes, then you cant run the V710, or the R6 in the modified class:

"All Modified Class vehicles are required to use DOT approved tires with UTQG tread wear ratings of 50 and above. Tires with less than a UTQG rating of 50 are not permitted in Modified Class."

However, you can run the R1:

"Tire Exception: The BFGoodrich R1 tire may be used in the Modified Class."

Thanks Warrtalon !
i probably will run like 5-10 laps at a time. The R6 will hold longer to pay that extra for it? Robi mentioned the RE-01R tires... So probably i will go for the cheaper one between the R1R vs RE-01R.

Thanks Bueller too, i try to fit in the street modifyed class, so if i'm right the rating minimun is there 140. But i have to check again.
And yes I was referring the redline time attack.

Kumho V710 has a wear rating of 30, and Hoosier R6 is 40, so they are prohibited in Modified class.

Technically, the R6 is intended for road racing, where the A6 is intended for autocross. The R1 is comparable to the R6. Everyone has their own preference.

There is no such thing as the "street modified class." There are three classes, (1) street, (2) modified and, (3) unlimited.

thanks!!! Now i really need to read it again
but i just find it out, the most of the tires are hard to find, since the best variety of tires are 265/35-18 ... i have way less choice in the 255/35-18. Maybe i'm on the wrong sites..
I hope some miracle happend soon and the will let the 265 size
why they pick the 255 ? narrow the competitions with tires?

Im not sure if youre understanding the rules correctly. For the street class, the UTQG tread wear rating has to be 140 or higher. That means tires that have UTQG tread wear ratings of less than 140 are not allowed. None of the following tires are allowed in the street class: R888, V710, R6, R1, so on and so forth.

Yeah, I really have no idea why they set the rating at 50 for modified. I run around with 325whp on V710s in both NASA Time Trials and SCCA AutoX. Hell, completely stock cars run V710s and Hoosiers A6/R6 in stock class, so it makes no sense that the heavily-modified cars in "Modified" can't use the standard tires for such competition. I wonder why they do that. I understand the 140 rating for street, but Modified not allowing the MOST popular tires in all the land just seems wierd.

Sorry, Robevo, I didn't know those two were just below the cutoff for Modified class - that really makes no sense. The cutoff should be slicks vs no slicks between Modified and Unlimited.

That's what he's saying, Bueller. 140 minimum in Street class. His English just isn't too good.
