RallyX skidplate mule

I'm in the process of helping desing and muling a prototype of a rallyx capable skidplate as well as rear diff guard. Its made of 3/16 aluminum. I got sick of having to pound the Beatrush I had back into shape all the time after some fun on the back roads or a rallyx and I don't have the cash to buy one of the real expensive plates from overseas or Ralliart that won't be all beat to nothing. since this happened to the Beatrush

I figured it was about time to find something that could be ppunished or stop driving the car the way I like to. Here are some preliminary pics. These are not finished product pics but I will have those next week. the plate is currently on the car but not 100% complete so not testing as of yet. It will be done Monday and will be tested at a RallyX near Rochester NY on March 8th. Plus I'll be having some fun in the snow and gravel with it as well.

Do one that has an extended lip/splitter and make sure that it ties in well enough to be used as a jacking point and mark said spot and you will move a lot of them.

You may also want to go ahead and build a Croxx style plate onto the piece as well as make the pieces that cover the main floor boards which would make for a very nice smooth underbelly.

As for the rear diff plate... once again, think dual purpose. Make it rally functional but track and aero friendly. Make it work with a rear diffuser or at least make the rear bumper smooth so its not a parachute at speed.

Then send me a set and I'll beat the snot out of it on backroads and then test it at Mid Ohio.

Woot!

There will be a front lip piece that angles upward about 45 dgrees to cover the front bumper a bit and keep dirt/snow from piling in on top of it. There will also be a midplate as a seperate piece just for ease of shipping, both together would be quite large.

A dirt friendly rear diffuser will come along later, what I need right now is the rear diff protected but I will keep that in mind as these are designed. Fllor board coverage will also be down the pipeline. Build and test the most important parts first, then move on LOL.

At this juncture the fabricator that is spearheading the design process with me is thinking all 3 pieces (skidplate, midplate and rear diff guard) should be very affordable as a set, well under 4 digits.

Thanks for reminding me about the jack point though, much appreciated.

Oh and I just realized you were from Logan, my grandfather was born and raised there, nice place.

That looks nice!

Make sure you make the mounting holes oversized, so you can attach it with fender washers so when it gets bent, you can get the thing off. And will there be covers for the holes to keep rocks out?

I'll probably buy a sump guard if the price is reasonable, which it sounds like it will be, so make more than just one.

But anyhoo, glad to see someone making a sump guard for the Evo!

Oversized mounting holes are a definate, remember this is just the unfinished prototype, the front lip isn't even there yet. There may be a cover for the oil drain hole but we'll decide if its needed after testing. Again, the hole is ugly at the moment, it will be more aesthetically pleasing when it is finished. Thanks for the interest though.

Noted. What did you catch to mangle that? And be sure to show your finished project.

Eight inches of snow in the road for 45 miles straight did that. Piled up on top and peeled it back like a apple skin.

The prototype will be finished end of next week and then thouroughly tested. It will be a bit of a rough version but I'll have pics when it and the other plates are finished. Then I'll have pics of finished product ones when they are ready to be offered to the public.

No plans for that yet Rob, fabricator and I were discussing a aluminum re-enforced FPR plastic piece or maybe carbon. If that is the case I'll have to get ahold of r.m.s. and see what can be done.

They may still be working on making one but I've been waiting better than a year and with the beatrush dead I need something ASAP, plus the other plating. Good guys though. I'll be working RallyNY with them.
