STU Allowable mods

hey all... I'm new to the whole evo thing (well, don't have my car yet, but it is in the works) and I'm trying to do some research into what's allowed in STU in terms of mods for an evo 8/9. I've read the whole 2008 STU thread and while it was interesting, it is really rather in depth in terms of people's specific set ups. I'm looking for more info on just what is allowed. I haven't auto-xed in the last 2 seasons, but prior to that I ran my RSX Type-S with moderate success in STS class in my region and I really enjoyed the competition that the street tire class afforded.

I know I can run upsized wheels but can only go up to a certain width tire? 245??
Can i do exhaust? Intake? ECU? boost? coilovers?

Thanks

Rich

What's allowed is in the rule book. The rules for STU are just like STS except for minor differences.

Ahhh... ok, great links guys. I searched but missed have missed that thread you linked me to... i found one that had much more in depth conversation relating specifically to people's cats and suspension setups.

I figured the rules had to be pretty close to STS, just wasn't sure where they differed.

I see it says no boost modifications... I know that on the 8's, boost spiked to 17-18, but then would retard back to 14 as revs increased and i know that a popular simple ecu mod is to disable that pulling back of boost, so that it boosts to 17-18 and stays there... would that be allowed, since it isb't boosting any higher than stock... or does it simply mean NO BOOST MODS!!!

It simply means NO BOOST MODS. Only indirect changes that are caused by legal mods are allowed i.e boost creep from a free flowing exhaust.

Ha, I wouldn't mind a little. Usually one cat in the system is enough to prevent boost creep. I've only seen it on my STi's with a catless exhaust.

No update/backdate in ST*. That means no IX parts on an VIII and no VIII parts on a IX (unless the mod allowed anyway, i.e. seats).

Even in SP, you can't UD/BD the turbo unless you swap out the whole motor too.

Manifolds are addressed in the rules, allowed. One thing to remember when reading SCCA rules: If it doesn't specifically say you can, you can't.
