Well if you're going Volvo get the one that is a reskinned Focus RS, I think its the C30 or something like that.

Evo X gains FIA homologation:

http://www.ralliart.com/08topics/08004.html
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation submitted to the Federation Internationale de L'automobile (FIA) papers on the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (chassis type CZ4A) for Group N Official homologation, receiving that recognition on August 1st 2008.
The FIA Group N Official homologation number is "N-5718."

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, the competition model equipped with the turbocharged MIVEC engine, acquired official recognition from the FIA for Group N homologation. It is expected that the high-powered FIA Group N machine will be active in rally competition including in the FIA Production Car world Rally Championship (PWRC), FIA regional championships, and a variety of domestic championships in the future.

RALLIART INC. (President: Masao Taguchi) "In an attempt to improve our Mitsubishi-running entrants' convenience, we have published on our website a new "Group N Information" section, with homologation and competition information etc. on all models from the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI onwards. As for the homologation information and rules, these are the officially recognized versions. There are also details on obtaining the car, and a sample of the official rulebook has also been published. In the near future, information on parts and additional officially recognized parts (VO) information for Group N vehicles that this company sells will be introduced onto the site.
If you've never seen one, here's an initial homologation form (PDF): http://www.ralliart.co.jp/GRN/homolo...ancerEvo10.pdf

Hopefully it fares better than the Subaru N14.

In local rally news, Rally Colorado in Steamboat Springs, Colorado is in just over 2 weeks!
the seat provides some protection on side impact?? iunno

Does Mitsu have any plans to return to WRC? Or is it just going to be PWRC only?

From what I understand the way the WRC class cars are going is they're going to become S2000 cars + a turbo and a bit more stuff. The idea is there would be a "kit" that would be applied to an S2000 car to make it a WRC class car. So about €150,000 for the S2000 car and maybe another €100,000 kit to make it full WRC class. This would keep costs down, and WRC teams could strip the kit and sell the car as an S2000 car when they retire a car.

So after all that preamble, Mitsu has expressed interest in returning to the WRC if this does indeed happen which it appears to have a good chance since there's so few manufacturers that can afford to hemorrhage the amount of cash that WRC requires right now.

There's a good show from Discovery UK called "Engineering The World Rally" which is floating around on torrent sites. It says that Subaru spends about €70M a year on their WRC program. I think that's the net profit Mitsubishi made last year.

^^Thanks. I knew that competing in the WRC was expensive but those numbers are scary. plus Mitsu has had some financial issues over the past few years.

just thought i'd make a thread for keeping it updated with news relating to WRC/Rally if anyone is interested.

Recent news from WRC

Rally New Zealand

Ford imploded going into the last day with both Hirvonen and Latvala getting into some trouble. Of course Sebastien "the Machine" Loeb took advantage of this and along with Dani Sordo they took home 1st and 2nd place for Citroen. I guess those are the breaks.

We were looking through photos for some upcoming WRC DVDs covers and found these cool images. Enjoy. Next WRC DVD Final Stage featuring Rally Japan, Ireland and the Wales Rally GB should be out in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more info on this one.
