CA Sport Evo in World Challenge
CA Sport Evo in World Challenge
The Evo IX is in the trailer and headed for New Jersey, then on to Atlanta (if all goes well) for the last two races of World Challenge. We got to race yesterday in Koni ST—in an Acura. It's too bad Grand Am won't allow an Evo!

Well the CA Sport team made it to the two final races of the season for more testing and more racing.
Thunderbolt NJ was going well, oh, except for at the start, we rolled off at the start early, so out came the black flag for a stop and go penalty. That effectively ends the race if you are running for only 50 minutes. Be sure to watch on 15 Oct when it is televised on Speed at Noon Eastern - set your tivos.
Just for some real entertainment: Andy Pilgrim on Kozarov (Evo CA Sport driver)-
Pilgrim's CTS-V is probably 5 times the cost, has 2 more seasons of development and has at least 100 hp over the Evo. Good excuse to drive poorly though. When in doubt, blame the machinery! (and other drivers of course)
I would consider it a victory, because the car finished a race for the first time and was completely reliable. But there is work to do...

Road Atlanta seemed too good to be true. The car was running well despite a haggard transmission that didn't provide a smooth shift. On the grid Vesko left the car in neutral until the green to make sure there was no early roll. With a legal (but not great) start according to the officials, he was ready to get some work done. Getting as far up as 15th, the car started to show its speed and Vesko was showing his craft.
During a battle with a Ford product Vesko was hit from behind and turned around, ending up in the gravel. Despite being many HP down from most other cars on track, and being passed every lap on the back straight (and getting it back in a few corners) it seemed that they could not match his craft and decided to crash him out instead of running a clean race. Then, to top it all off SCCA Pro Racing issues a stop and go penalty for Vesko citing unsportsmanlike conduct. There were more politics at Road Atlanta than at the VP debate!
Despite the adversity, Vesko is happy that the car was reliable, turned well, and could hang on track. He admits there is work to do, but is confident in getting it up to speed.

Road Atlanta will be broadcast also on 15 Oct at 1pm (GT) and 2pm (TC) eastern, also on Speed channel.

“[Kozarov’s] pit people said ‘he’s going to stay left and let you race,’ but when he took off he just left me,” Pilgrim said. “That thing has so much power, I couldn’t get anything. Then we were getting late in the brake zone and he looked like he was coming in on the line, and then he stopped, so I just went through.

Well, funded is a relative term. The team is completely privateer with no outside sponsors, but once a few good results are had the sponsor hunt will begin. I would say we operate on a fraction of most other team's budgets.
Perhaps there will be something worked out with evom members, we definitely want the community involved.
I'll post up as soon as i can get the video worked out.
No funding required. Just stop by Dave Buschurs on your way East next time and have him dyno tune the car. He makes 500whp on pump gas all day long. On the race spec fuel you should be between 500-600 whp on a Mustang Dyno.
Or have Erich put one of his ol' trade mark rear-mount turbos on it, leave it outside so it rusts some good size holes to make it lighter - then you'll have a ficker approved race-machine

Good work guy developing such a nice car. I heard rumors of SCCA's sharty calls all the way in the Grand Am paddock last week! You guys are making waves and I'm sure it won't be long until you're taking home trophies!
in-car
Unfortunately the SCCA won't allow us to post any in-car footage. For classic Davis maneuvering, check-out the in-car (released by WC) from Detroit:

I think its great you guys are in the series, I wish you would have made some '07 races so I could see the car in person.
BUT aggressive driving and politics aren't new to SWC. Taking jabs and making quips about other drivers does nothing but make the team look unprofessional. The team already put a foot in its mouth on the WC forum a few months back. Developing the car and getting on pace will say everything that needs to be said.
Best of luck in the off-season!
