Targa Newfoundland podium for EVO X
I just put a post up in the EVO X tuning section about this, but figured the motorsports guys would want to know as well. Here's the press release:
WORKS EVO X P2 Flash Proves Itself Again in Rally Competition
2008 EVO X GSR takes the podium in the Targa Newfoundland with the help of a WORKS mail-in P2 Flash.
Newfoundland, Canada -- September 20, 2008 – When the fierce competition of the Targa Newfoundland Rally came to a conclusion the factory supported 2008 Mitsubishi EVO X GSR, piloted by ACP driver Andrew Comrie-Picard and navigator Jen Horsey, was sitting atop the Modern Modified class standings placing third overall for the event. The car which was entered by Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN) boasted a host of performance and safety modifications including an off-the-shelf WORKS mail-in P2 flash. A pioneer in Mitsubishi ECU flashing technology, WORKS is the only U.S. tuner with tools developed in-house to reflash the 2008-2009 factory ECUs. Chosen for its safety, reliability and out-right performance the WORKS P2 performed flawlessly helping to give the Mitsubishi team a performance edge over the competition. In the week long Targa Rally event vehicles are pushed to the limit and reliability is paramount to success. The WORKS Brain Flash did its job bringing the MMSCAN EVO X safely across the finish line at the head of the pack.
About WORKS:
Established in 2003, WORKS is a Northern California based automotive firm specializing in the engineering, design and production of performance components for racing and street applications. Question...AMS also has an ECU only reflash for the X, as run by Ryan Gates in TTA at the NASA nationals...is there something different about the Works reflash that makes it unique?
Also, I haven't been able to find any info on results for Peter G's IX at Targa Newfoundland...any info?

AMS uses EcuTek (UK based company) for their flash, it wasn't developed in house. I also don't know if they supply a different boost hose/boost pill. So those are the main differences.... we are still the only US based tuner to offer a flash/boost hose combination for the X that was completely developed in-house.
I haven't seen any updates from Peter G, but I think he can be contacted directly through his website: http://evolvedperformance.com/

Our P1 Flash doesn't alter boost and uses the stock boost hose for people running in classes that don't allow boost modification. As far as a shootout is concerned that's something we leave up to third parties (magazine most likely) to organize. But sounds like a good idea.

Bill:
Just to confirm for those that will be running NASA TT:
The X P1 flash does not control boost or modify the boost hose.
The X P2 flash does modify the boost with the ECU and does modify the boost hose/pill?
This is important as the current interpretation of the TT rules states that boost control with the ECU only is 10 points, while boost control via the ECU and a modified boost hose/pill is 14 points.
This is important as there was some confusion at Nationals about an Evo X flash setup and it almost got the driver DQ'd.
If this can be confirmed, I'll make sure scrutineers on a National level are correctly assigning points for the Evo X, hopefully making life a little easier for NASA racers.

David,
Correct.
The P1 flash only modifies timing, Air/Fuel Ratio and rev limit, it does not modify boost or come with a modified boost hose.
The P2 does modify boost through the ECU and comes with a modified boost hose to raise peak boost. I'm sure our tuners could make a modified version of the P2 that used the stock boost hose but still changed boost levels through the ECU if someone required that, but it is not an off the shelf option.
This is true for EVO VIII, IX and X with the WORKS flash.
