Well we all know how good the FP Red performs on the dyno and on the ¼ mile, but what about the road course side of things.

It doesn't’t matter if you’re an avid HPDE’r, Time Attack or Time Trial runner, or the local SCCA auto-x’r.

I just want to know how many FP Reds are out there and how successful they are on the track, like our quarter mile predecessor's.

Just a few questions that Im curios about:
- How many FP Red Evo’s track their car on road courses?
- Do you use the current FP oil feed line or a other brand?
- How many failures of the FP Red have occurred on road courses?
- How long have you been tracking your car with the FP Red?
- Any other Pros/Cons

The questions above dont really have to be answered but I would like to know how well does this turbo hold up on the track...

I only know of one guy so far and he's ridiculous fast. He doesn't seem to have any issues with surging or oil feed. He did have temperature issues due to increased power level. I think he runs on 100 oct.

 

It's a great turbo, especially for a road course. It has near stock like spool, and that matters a lot. I don't run Red, but would sure love to. And coming from green, you miss the spool for sure

 

with the first gen red, i saw more fail then i'm sure you'd like to hear. by december we had seen 5 reds melt at the track. one car alone went through 3, then FP instrumented it, and apparently solved the problems with it, because the next gen i haven't seen any problems with. we are planning on running a red on our 2.3L TTU car once the car is built. but for now we have a HTA35 sitting on the ground ready to go on the car. FP was awsome with support on the melted reds though. only one we had to cover some of the rebuild costs on because they said there was debris in the oil. incedentally all these failed reds i'm sure has to do with the strict recommendations on the oil feed line they have now.

You know that HTA35 will kick red's ***. I guess it all depends where you're planning on running, mostly what track configuration you're going to running. With HTA35 it's the best of both worlds, somewhat decent spool and with 2.3l lag wouldn't be too terible. but the power output is insane

 

Im only looking for relevancies to the FP Red on the 8' and 9's...

 

That's funny, it's like a mirror image of our story, 3 melted and now HTA35R.

Hmm... my guess is the FP Red sees significant thrust loads on the bearings compared to stock, so it needs more oil to keep the bearings from rubbing and destroying themselves.

 

We have a local guy that killed a stock motor main bearing on the third lap at the AMS Autobahn lapping day.

The car was meth injected and when pulling the motor the oil seemed very thin and was black as the ace of spades.

This was the stock frame red with stock oil line.

 

Oiling issues should be resolved now... from here out, should be damn interesting what wins what...

Im wondering if the oil sloshing away from the oil pick-up would result in the oil starvation problems...

Nils was commenting on how his 3rd main bearing was shot due to oiling problems on right-handers...

 

would the performance of the red turbo for that power level sway you back if you wanted that level again and the failure issues are looking resolved so far as reports are atm?
