9/28 Wash DC AX
9/28 Wash DC AX
We finally got the results from our 9/28 autocross. We knew already how the folks on this board had fared relative to each other, but we didn't know how we did compared against everybody else. They don't have the PAX index done yet, but we do know that:
jbrennen won AS with a time of 44.423 on his stock Advans. That was the fastest stock time of the day and also would have won CM, EM, CP, CSP, DSP, ESP, STS, STX, SM, and SM2. Did I mention he was on Advans?
Second place in AS went to me. I was about 1.1 behind Jack, but that was still good enough for third fastest stock time and would have been good enough to win CM, EM, CP, CSP, DSP, ESP, STS, SM, and SM2. I was on V700s though.
wojo was third and fselekler was fourth, so it was a 1-3 sweep for Evos in AS and a 1-4 sweep for people on this board. Both were on OEM rubber. There was also a new Evo driver there. I never got to talk to him but he is listed as a novice. I hope he is not as quick a study as Jack because I am going to have my hands full with him next year as it is.

Geez, you guys should tell them to take some lessons from Spokes. We have results printed and posted at the event after each run heat. The final results tend to show up on the web sometime later that afternoon/evening, too.
We are lucky to get them by Wed/Thurs post event. Not really sure why they consistently take so long.
It might be because people here like to "over dramatize" this sport, so you have plenty of auditing, triple checking the results, verifying rules etc.

We don't have to run the same class next year... Why settle for 1-2 finishes for Evos when we can both get 1st place?

I cannot wait for this weekend, I should have the telemetry equipment installed as well and hopefully get some quality data

I have a GEEZ system that I used a few times a few years ago, but I came to the conclusion I couldn't learn much about my driving by just looking at my own numbers. My best use of it was letting Kenny Sorensen use it (we were both in DS at the time and I knew he was a much better driver) and compare my data to his. The one thing I learned from that was that Kenny was much quicker turning in. I don't know how much of that was car (his Neon vs my NX), but that is something I have tried to work on since.
Tuning is a different story however and hard data is really the only way to go. Tough to get enough of it in a few sub-minute runs to tell much though I would think. I think you need to spring for an open Evo/STi test day at Fed Ex sometime

I figured out who beat my PAX using a spreadsheet that displays the time in every other class which is equivalent to my PAX - for instance, to beat my PAX, a GS driver would need to run 47.036 or faster. Then I compiled the top five PAX myself... Funny you should mention Sorensen, he was the fast PAX of the day.
I was stationed with him on the course when I was working, and there wasn't a dull moment - that guy never stops talking.
1. 36.1808 - Kenny Sorensen (GS), 46.267
2. 36.3090 - Vince Bly (STX), 45.500
3. 36.6943 - Darren Mass (STS), 46.804
4. 36.7263 - Marshall Cone (HS), 47.206
5. 36.7822 - John Brennen (AS), 44.423
JW, if I'm not mistaken, you were 16th in PAX.
For me, being only 0.6 off the pace of the PAX leader, while running stock rubber, makes me wonder if I could have been top PAX if I'd run Hoosiers. But it doesn't make me wonder enough to actually bring the Hoosiers to Rosecroft.

I looked in to the GEEZ, but one downside is that it works only with Palm and I needed something that works with PocketPC. Now I have MaxQData, thus far it seems pretty amazing. The best part is it is designed to be ported from one vehicle to another with minimal setup. Also, it can read ODB II data; such as RPM, TPS, Speed, etc. (more that couple dozen metrics), and can plot friction circles, all sort of g-analysis, over/understeer detection.
I will be collecting the first sets of data this weekend hopefully and actually use it with real data. This set of data will form the baseline for the STi, which I'd like to do for one of the Evo's as well

Any how, once we make chassis modifications and run the tests again, we will be able to compare them to the baseline and see the effects.
Open test and tune day is in my mind prior to 04 season, but we cannot afford the insurance of Fedex, even if we could get it.
However, I am thinking of pairing up with Brian to do something in Frederick, but I only chatted with Craig at this time, did not get a chance to talk with Brian yet. Any how, test and tune would be nice at the Frederick lot, its cheap

Next season however, we will be renting the unit to interested runners, so that they can collect their own data, and analyze it as they wish without the initial cost of buying the unit.
I am also thinking about the satetelite extension to see if that can bring more visual value to the collected data, but that is a little early to determine at this time.
As I said, you are on to something
