TOP GEAR & The Ring

I have seen Ryan's car run at the NJ RTA and that car is moving. The car is no joke.

I have been watching TOP GEAR and their competitor 5th Gear TV show for years and I still have not seen one tuner car go over to their track and smoke all their lap times on that runway. They keep testing all these $6 Figure cars that are great, but no one can really afford. Although they did do an EVO X FQ360 test earlier this year on the show I think that car costs like $60 or $70k, I would have really liked to see an EVO X that was tuned by a US company instead and for less money. So can someone call TOP GEAR or the BBC to arrange that meeting? It seems like all they like to support are all the European Tuners. Where is the US love?

On top of that bring the AMS Unlimited car as well and maybe they will really understand what an ultimate street & race car are really about.

What times do you think Ryan's car will get the way it sits on the TOP GEAR Runway? I suppose 1:15 sec and with the unlimited car 1:11sec range. Lets see... an Enzo gets like a 1:17-1:18 and change on that course right? I think the very ugly Gumpert Apollo currently holds the record. I am not sure what the times are.

After that hit the Nurburgring. I think in the low 7 min range is possible.

On another note, my buddy in his VIPER keeps sh^& talking the EVO. He says there is no way an EVO will beat the new VIPER ACR that has the current Nurburgring lap record. Well I like to see that record drop too. Go EVO

MTI racing in Ga. had put together an estimate for customers to go to the ring, spa and a few other tracks over 1 or 2 weeks. They were going to have a support vehicle for any problems and had the estimate together including room and board and track rental fees. It was about 10-15k for shipping both ways and the other expenses (depending on # of parties). At least that was what I was told. I don't know if they had profit built in or if it was promotional.

I will say that even with Ryan driving, it will be hard to surpass guys that have been driving the track for years in a day or two. I've heard it takes 100 laps just to really KNOW the track. Not just the turns, but the intricate details that make you faster.

I'd rather see Ryan at NASA nationals this week going up against Danny Popp in the C5Z and Derek Whitis in the Freedom GT-R in TTU. Only classed on power/weight. Ring times are for magazines, time to run the big dogs.

I hope he returns to NASA next year, because he's obviously not going to step on the toes of the AMS TA/X and run against the Factor X NSX or HKS Cyber Evo type of cars in Ulimited, so he'll be at mediocre tracks on a smaller stage than he'd be at NASA. He could probably do only some of the events and win RTA, then win Super Lap Battle and still earn enough points to go to NASA Nationals. Maybe even a One Lap of America for good measure.

That should be the plan for next year. Screw the nurburgring.

The FXX destroyed all but the Fiat F1 car on the Top Gear test track. Of course it was removed afterwards simply because it was running slicks and obviously the F1 car is not street legal either.

Remember: The Top Gear test track only features cars that are street legal and all stock, from what I understand. Building an Evo X like AMS's or Mr. Gates' is an exceptional task, but it means nothing to Top Gear if you can't purchase it at a dealer and get a warranty with it.

The bottom line is that Top Gear reviews consumer cars, not the capabilities of tuner shops.

With that said, I think the nurburgring would be an insanely difficult track that would push AMS's and Gates' cars to the limit. I would love to see them take it on. Hell, a Dodge Viper ACR, GT-R, ZR-1, and a Veyron would be amazing. At the end, you could compare lap times with prices. I think we'd come to some interesting conclusions!

You're forgetting that AMS Unlimited car is definitely in that range, and Ryan car is also something not many people can afford. If you were to ask AMS to duplicate Ryan's car right now, I bet it would be close to $100K...

I know because just the way my car sits I still can't believe how much money went into it

Agreed, Top Gear isn't in the business of testing modified cars, only cars that can be bought by consumers. That said, it really, really surprises me that someone hasn't put together a replica of the TG test track in the US. It's really not a complicated track. Surely, if someone made it in the US, it'd quickly become a gearhead destination due to all the people who'd want to see how their car stacks up to the official leaderboard.

Yes, that is an excellent idea. I knew they were planning a Top Gear USA show with tanner foust but it didn't happen. Maybe somebody has a huge airstrip that someone can rent. How is the Maxton?

Tourist days on the 'Ring only allow cars with street tires - R-comps are frowned upon and there's no way they'll let you out on a slick or semi-slick. You also can't run a full lap - you've got to slow down for the "toll booth". To get in a full lap, you'd have to rent the track. Not sure how much that is, but I can't imagine it's cheap.

Shipping a car to Europe via slow-boat should run somewhere around 5k.

I am really curious to see what times Ryan and his X could bring it, feel like it would be the ultimate test of

#1 Ryans driving skill
#2 The X's capabiltiy.

So Ryan if your listening start a "send Ryan to Nurburgring" donation campain.

I'm sure I'm not the only EvoM fan that would pay to see it... literally. Keep tearing it up.
I have no idea who this person is, and I'm sure he is perfectly nice.

But if he has the funds to prep a fairly new car for time attack and succeed at it, I think he's probably in good enough financial shape to afford this if he really wanted to and doesn't need donations...
