Advice on track time
Advice on track time
I was curious to know if its worth it to pay for 2 days of HDPE1 at NJMP. This will be my first time at an HDPE event. Two day will cost me 510.00 and one day is 300.00 Is this a good track to learn on or should I look into Englishtown???
yes it will definitely be worth it. for me a driver mod is the best and most useful mod you could do. plus you will need to get as much lesson and seat time as possible. just like what spdracerut said fresh fuilds is very important. most of all the brakes. if you can, bleed your brakes for day 1 & 2.
I have some negative camber wear on my rears bcause I got lazy and never rotated them last year. I am assuming there not going to allow me to run? As far as brakes how much pad do you think I need to run for two days? I have Ferodo 2500 and performance friction 2 piece rotors in the front with some meat left on the pads yet, stockers on the rears. What is HDPE 1 all about? I am under the assumption its pretty tame but correct me if I am wrong... By the way I just changed the drivetrain fluids about 3/k miles ago, is that ok or should it be redone before hand?
$510 is an outrageous price! most orginazations charge around $300-$350 for a two day event with instruction (PDA for example). I just signed up for a two day @ NJMP this thursday-friday w/PCA and it was only $260 for both days.
Having said that, its still money very well spent, even if it is a little on the high side. who is the track day with?

I have been to both NJMP lightning and the englishtown road course. They are both nice tracks. NJMP is a much nicer facility with more amenities. As for the tracks, NJMP has better paving and is nicer all around. As for sessions, most clubs you run with give you 4 20-30 mins sessions at NJMP. In the englishtown road course, if you run the events put together by the track director Chris Winter you get as many sessions as time will allow. 8-10 sessions is not unheard of in a day and its also much cheaper after your first time.
It's your very first HPDE and you're already asking about moving up to 2? Oh brother...
I'm with AlwaysInBoost, that's a crazy expensive price. I just did 2 days at NJMP with NASA and it was $333. It's an awesome track and you'll get good instruction (depending on your instructor, which is hit or miss). In general, a track day costs about $250.
As for your car, make sure you still have meat on those tires. I just corded my RE-01Rs there last weekend. Those pads probably won't cut it. You'll end up glazing them or worse. It barely takes any time at all to change pads at the track. I don't know what power you're pushing, but I was hitting 135mph with ease in HPDE1 with 330hp. Get some quality pads and Motul RBF600 or ATE Super Blue fluid. Best advice I can give. I run HT10s up front and was confident stopping from 135 over and over.
HPDE1 is pretty tame. It's tame, but remember how fast you are going and how dangerous it is. 130mph in HPDE1 and 130mph in Redline Time Attack is still 130mph. Be safe! Almost never any car on car contact, stay in control, drive at 8/10 and play it safe. You're there to learn, not be the fastest. There's no times, trophies for not letting people pass or podiums. There will be faster drivers and cars then you. Have fun.

depends on you! don't rush to get moved up. focusing on the proper technique, being smooth, consistant and learning the line will make you faster then trying to add speed. sounds counter-intuitive, but its the truth.
Okay so I will take a look at trackdayz, PCA, and anty others recommended bu members. So it seems my next ugrade is better pads, brake fluid, and a set of new tires. As far as power I have too much for my experience and will run around 18-21 psi to keep it safe. Any other suiggestions could help thanks guys. Oh, how about my fluids being changed again or should I be okay since I did the tc and diff about 3/k miles ago?
