NASA/Time Attach

I was looking to get into doing NASA or some sort of version of Time Attach. I just put an FP Red on my car and after looking over the rules it looks like it takes me out of the enthusiast class in RTA. I don't think I can be competitive in the street class so was looking into what NASA may have. Any info on both would be great, sorry this is kind of vague just thought I would go off of where some of you have started.

Thanks Joe

Welcome, ya lots of us here run with Nasa, great org. To start off, there's two ways you can class - either by adding up points, or by doing some math with max dyno HP and minimum weight. Min weight meaning what the car would weigh with you in it, but running on fumes and such.

http://nasaproracing.com/rules

So to help ya out, start us off by giving us bullet points on all of your mods, tire size, and experience aka have you run with Nasa before or any other club?

NASA TT is a great group.

However, once you upgrade the turbo, you jump directly to the power/weight classes which are:
TTS: 8.7:1
TTU: 5.5:1
TTR: Unlimited everything You'd probably have too much HP for TTS.

The power/weight factor is not a straight whp/weight. There's some pluses and minuses depending on what tire you run, what drivetrain (AWD) and sedan/coupe/wagon. I'm assuming you're > 400whp with that FPRed right? Even if you weighed around 3350; something around 400whp is the limit for TTS.

I'd almost guarantee you'd be in TTU.

Either way, it's a great way to get out and on the track. Sign up for an event, check out your local region and see what you think. You have to 'graduate' into the TT class so it's a LOT safer than something like Redline (trust me; I've done both). It's also a LOT funner as there's more tracktime and more passing in TT. We'll sometimes have 30-40 cars on track at once!

That's why you should be racing in ST-2 this year

I don't have the budget to setup the car how I'd want it. I'd do better in PTA (TTA build) but that doesn't enthuse me really.

ST-2 has Unlimited suspension and aero - not to mention unlimited engine upgrades to get to your desired whp (I have a plan). Just don't have the budget to run at the front; and that's where I'd wanna be!

If I had to do it all over, I'd probably run in PTA vs. ST-2 precisely for the those reasons but the car is too far "gone" and my math is too poor to figure out how to undo everything

Well, PTA has been pretty dead. It's picking up a bit now. I know the MW has a few cars, but they tend to run ST-2 so fill out that class as they don't have a consistent turnout to fill PTA.

I'd rather do ST-2 myself. Just to get rid of the aero & turbo upgrade contraints would be nice. And if I wanted to try something new that didn't affect my ratio; I could.
Problem is, you go against Vettes with detuned torque monster engines. I know they're out there; I thought about buying one briefly in December!

Opposite here, more PTA and 0 ST2, as he said i'm too far gone for PTA directly so I emailed greg to find out how much weight i'd have to add or what not to run PTA to fill out the class's. But back on topic, ya there's a lot to classing, tis why I asked for his info up front so we could build him out from there and offer options/opinions.

Thanks for all the info guys

So to help ya out, start us off by giving us bullet points on all of your mods, tire size, and experience aka have you run with Nasa before or any other club?
Stock motor with FP Red and supporting mods ie, intercooler and piping, down pipe, no cat but can put back on, intake, fuel pump, and injectors
Kw coilovers, rear sway
275/35/18 tires but can get whatever size I may need on my track wheels
Car has autopower roll bar in it with 4point harness for now, would upgrade to 6 or whatever is required.
I have done a few track days and watched a local NASA event but couldnt get much info there.

Thanks for the help

Thanks again for all the help

So like boom said, once you swap turbo's you can do one of two things.

A. Get reclassed by the national director and add up points
B. Forget the points and build it off the power to weight + points

Either way, I agree you'll end up in TTU simply off of power and weight.

So we don't go repeating ourselves from previous posts, please check out the CCR club codes, and the Time Trial Rules on the link I gave you above. Go over the whole thing, and pay attention to the parts specifying TTS/TTU/TTR classes and the safety bits. Then ask your questions. There is a LOT of info on there that you'll need to know and understand what we can't describe to you here.

To add to this your roll bar is fine, as TT doesn't require it still since it falls under HPDE rules, but your belt you'll have to switch up to a 5 point or above. As of April this year 4 points will be illegal. Your going to also have to look at cooling, BRAKES, and a decent amount of downforce and weight loss to be competative in TTU. But i'd go out like they suggested, get your TT Lic, get a feel for it, and upgrade as you see fit. But FOR SURE, upgrade brakes and cooling first.

Dozens of threads out there on pad compounds, rotors, lines, fluid, the works. To be honest each of us is using something different I think lol. Cooling wise lots of options, fans, water wetter, shrouds, heat shields, etc again lots of threads on these. Good oil and some ducting to the oil cooler or a aux fan.

Balrok, thanks for all the advise. I hate the brake pad threads those are the toughest, I like my ferodos (if that how you spell it) but dont have enough seat time to know what is good.
