AD08s are the fastest and largest choice of what you have listed.

But how does largest translate into fastest? Fastest in the wet? Fastest in the dry? Fastest on a high speed track? Fastest in an autocross?

The PSS is going to be the hot tire. roomers from the upstate have them at 2 seconds a lap faster than the current PS2. not sure if you guys will be able to run them do to size and avalaibility but id suggest doing a bit of research to find out for sure.

I have lots of data (and thoughts) from the STU testing days. I've tested at least 10 different street compounds and several cars. Since you're not limited to to 245 width, I would not jump immediately on the dunlop/yokohama bandwagon.

I just pm'd you my number if you want chat.

EDIT: this is exciting, i don't think we (evom) have had a showing this good since shiv and paul won back in '04.

For Time Attack Hankook RS-3's are where it's at. They also have worked better than Dunlop or Bridgestone on a Civic SI for autocross. Wet traction was scary though...

Whoops - my bad. Hankook and Toyo are not allowed as they are not sold by Tire Rack. The Michelin PSS looks like it will not be available in a size I would normally run - 265/40/18 is the closest - and it may not be available until right before the event. . .

Can you get the Michelin in a 17" diameter? You could still clear the brakes (assuming yours are OEM size).

They may be sold by Tire Rack, but they are not on the list of tire brands we can use from Tire Rack

Eligible Tire Brands

The Tire Rack One Lap of America competitors can select tires from the participating tire brands listed below in 2011:

BFGoodrich
Bridgestone
Continental
Dunlop
Firestone
General
Goodyear
Kumho
Michelin
Pirelli
Yokohama

The guys in the EVO X did really well last year - they are on here and have a thread active in this section.

There should be a third thread opened up soon enough, haha.

Sean Caron and myself did pull off a class win last year in my Evo X and while it wasn't the fastest car it could have been, we were there for every event consistently placing in the top 10 overall and scoring points. We also didn't push the limits of the car beyond what we were comfortable with considering it was my daily driver and for a first year out even a 2nd in class finish would have been perfectly fine given our strategy!

Really any car that can reach 10 second quarter mile performance can win the entire event, provided you can manage top performances across all 18 points events. The problem that typically plagues really fast cars and/or drivers is that once you push the limits beyond a certain point the risk increases where even one poor showing or DNF will wreck your chances for a class win let alone an event win.

To clear things up there are actually a number of Evo's running for 2011:

Showcase Mitsubishi - Jarrod Hoops / David Bruzewski - 2006 Evo 9 RS

teamIGLOOracing - Sean Caron / Chris Wirth - 2008 Evo X GSR
teamIGLOOracing - Paul Seto - 2008 Evo X MR
teamIGLOOracing - Barry Stewart - 2010 Evo X GSR

RochesterDSM - Stephen Burke / Tim Harper - 2008 Evo X GSR

that is just the cars I know of at the moment, it's good to see that people are more interested in this event then in the past.

As for tires our testing also showed that the Hankook RS3's were superior but when Brock released the 2011 Tire Policy it's unknown if they were intentionally exluded or just looked over even though they are sold by Tire Rack. I think all of the tires that are left will perform close to each other, our final choice on what tires to go with hasn't been made yet either since originally we planned on Hankook RS3's.

I think what Donour meant was the Evo community hasn't seen this many top notch Evos all running the event @ the same time. I'm predicting Mid-Priced Sedan will be the toughest class this year

Dan would know!

Sucks they aren't available to use for the event though. You know Dunlop Z1 StarSpecs were the best in the wet and arguably the best in the dry in 2009 right? I've got a set and have been amazed at the grip level. Only about 2-3 seconds slower than a worn (non-stickered) Hoosier.
........Given you need to nurse them around the track as they like to convert to 4-wheel powerslides like any street tire when you're pushing them!
