i use the Safety Solution Hybrid Pro. it provides side impact protection that the HANS does not, unless you have halo seat. the price are also reasonable.

the Hybrid X version will also with without 5/6 point harness.

While I would normally agree, less weight is better ie helmets and suits, it cannot truly be said about the HANS device.
The device is supported by our body that is strapped with a downward force exerted by the belts.
The tighter you put you belts, the more the force adds to the "weight" feeling.

The 1/2 pound difference makes very little impact on the driver in the long term. Unlike a 1/2 pound difference on your head- which is supported only by neck muscles.

In the end, getting one makes the most difference!

SafeRacer is a solid site & company. And they have them cheaper:

Hmm, interesting. Also no possibility of harness sliding off the HANS device with that setup.

sorry, but i used the plastic and the CF . The difference is huge. And as a time goes by the difference is even bigger Also if you feel your seat belt is pool you down , you should re adjust ASAP before you will brake your spine in case of accident.
The seat belt should hold you in place in the seat without any down force.

Agreed, the shoulder belts should pull you BACK, not down. You should only feel pushed down if the harness bar area is below your seat opening, which is bad.

Even at the 10 degree angle that is considered proper belt install and safe, there is always a downward pressure.
Either way with the belts in place and your seat supporting your bodies weight, the HANS CF model really offers little extra value- except bling.
I have customers that have had both and agreed the difference was not noticable- and I have worn both and had to agree.

If you can afford it, already people balk at the sport pricing, buy it but I think we will both agree that having one, is the best way to go.

Yup, either way better then not. Also the v2 is coming out for the sport as someone already mentioned, so it'll be some time before it's "approved" and a carbon version is made, but something to keep an eye on timing wise.

I'm in the market for a hans/ H&N device myself. You can also look at http://www.rallylights.com/ also. They are a great bunch of guys that i hillclimb with.

I'm kinda thinking about the defender over the hans myself tho. Any thoughts?

Speedware motorsports (in renton wa) has them, I bought my Recaro from them a while back and they were great to deal with.
For OP, they're local to us, I always prefer to be able to see exactly what I'm getting and prefer to spend locally.
