255/40/17 for autoX
Never had many of those tires but I do have the Star Specs on my 2006 Civic Si also had BF KDW TA2 and I loved both tires. Both were very sticky but I prefer the KDWs just because they seemed to grip the best.
I ran most of the year in 2010 with a Bilstein/Swift Spec-R combo with 245/40 A6's. Even with stiffer Swift Spec-R's, r-comps felt like they were still not fully utilized. Competitive but no where near as good as a decent coilover system with wide r-comps. Buy a decent set of coilovers, roll your rear fenders and stick 275/40 r-comps on you 17x9 wheels.

I think the bottom line here is that since you're running in a class that allows R-comp tires you'll get much greater grip out of any set of 245 width R-comps than you will with the best 255 street tire. That said, of all the R-comps, Hoosier A6 is the best auto-x tire out there but are pricey and won't last that long compared to something like a Nitto Nt01, which is offered in a 255/40/17 btw.
