Thanks for the links, guys.
Right now I've got an '04 RS in my crosshairs. The price is right, he's an autocrosser that I met at an event, original owner, 70,000 miles, well sorted out, good suspension (Koni), the rear LSD has already be reassembled, it's tuned to run on E85, puts down about 365whp in ASP autocross trim on regular gas, turboback exhaust, MBC, 17x9 5Zigen FNO1R-c wheels, ported exhaust manifold, I think it's got a stage1 or 2 aftermarket clutch, and he's asking $15,000.
Gonna put it on the lift Wednesday and check it out.

If I was looking for a top contending ASP car, I would have to go with a IX platform for the mivec and turbo. The VIII would be an awesome car for local and probably some tour/pro events, depending on who shows up. There's some weight savings of a non-acd car, but the power advantage of the IX gives it the edge, imo.
On the other hand, if you want an great car already on it's way to being setup, don't mind not having "the" car to have at nationals, and want to save some $$ over "the" car to have... the VIII will definitely be a blast.

When I hand the keys to my S2000 to my friend Jay, who's last year's B-Stock national champ, and he takes ONE RUN and puts 1.2 seconds on me in my own car, the bottom line is that i have work to do as a driver before worrying about having the perfect car.
The VIII RS i'm looking at is gonna be a rip to drive. I saw it in action at an event two weeks ago, on street tires no less, and i can't wait to get behind the wheel.

I'm not as concerned with having 'The Car' when I'm not quite yet 'The Driver' although the MIVEC does have its appeal.

Checked it out today. Yeah, ZZYZX. I had no idea what you were talking about, but yeah, that's what the car has got.
Also test drove it on the E85, 400whp, i almost had a heart attack. Is that thing a car or a space ship? Holy crap.

it's only like 2 billion times more expensive and thus represents a much better performance/dollar ratio.
I mean really the only difference between STU and ASP is buying tires. You already have all the suspension stuff and e85 is cheap. The money saved in replacing stock clutches covers most of the difference.
