I mean really the only difference between STU and ASP is buying tires. You already have all the suspension stuff and e85 is cheap. The money saved in replacing stock clutches covers most of the difference.
those 285/18/30 Hoosiers are MAD expensive tho. When i checked the price i almost choked.

only like 100 more than a set of your s2k tires. Just be glad you're not buying the big tires!

Wow. I can buy two sets of 245/40/R17 Star Specs for that price. And I bet the Star Specs will last at least twice as long, so the Hoosiers are like 4 times more expensive to run.

4x is pretty close to 8 billion times more expensive.

Although clutch replacement is a painful proposition.

So is transfer case replacement, diff replacement, transmission replacement, buying a tow vehicle and trailer, driving around on *SP spring rates, etc etc.

It took a while, but it's official. You can all welcome me to the cult, now. Didn't want to be 'that guy' that talks smack on the forums (for 9 months) and doesn't actually get the car.

'04 RS with 76,000 miles. Here's what it's got:

400whp on E85 in ASP auto-x trim

Ported polished and ceramic coated stock exhaust manifold
Front strut tower brace
1100 cc injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Perrin Race Intake
Aluminum Mitsubishi BOV
Megan O2 housing
Aftermarket Aluminum Cam gears
3" turboback exhaust with test pipe (he also threw in a high flow cat)
ZZYZX suspension with Koni 8611 DA internals with Hyperco Coils
Reassembled rear LSD by Sheppard Racing
ACT HTSS clutch
17x9 - 5Zigen FN01R-c wheels
Hankook RS3s 255mm
A bunch of stock parts

I thought I got a good deal for $15,000 for a pretty well sorted out auto-x car from an original owner.

Passed the compression test, had the mechanic check it out. The only thing it really needs is a new valve cover gasket and i'm going to do some basic stuff like change the fluids. I'm also going to have a boatload fo questions in a little while.

I REALLY wanted this car for a long time, so....

I was on here for 8+ years before I bought mine

Congrats on the purchase!

Thanks everyone. Okay got some introductory questions about my 'money pit':

1- maintenance, gonna do the fluids, please chime in on my choices:

A) t-case and LSD - Diaqueen (seller threw in a free can)
B) Brake lines - Motul600
C) tranny - AMSOIL 75w-90 GL-4

2- Brake pads, Carbotech (it's close to my home and i really like them on my S2000. Been running XP10-f XP8-r. What's the setup of choice for EVOs? Keep in mind I don't have ABS so RS guys feel free to drop some knowledge.

3- Wheels, looking to mount 17x10 Enkei RPF1s with various 275mm tires. Anybody have these? Did you roll the fenders, and if so how much? What offsets do you run? there's a guy in the 'agressive wheel thread' running these with the +18 offsets but no additonal info on it.

Thanks.

I like where you're headed with this.

1) Fluids: Looks good to me, although I'm not the best person to ask

2) For Autocross, temperatures never really get high enough to warrant a track brake pad. Instead, a street pad will usually provide better initial bite when cold and more consistent braking through your runs. Hawk HP+ if you can handle the noise, otherwise look into the EBC offerings (although I'd avoid the Blue for now due to mixed reviews. Some love it, some hate it). For any sort of track days, you'll definitely want to switch to track-specific pads. The Evo is a heavy car and yours has a lot of power, which is going to put a lot of demand on the braking system during track use.

3) Take a look at the 'official wide tire' thread in the Evo 1-9 Wheels, Suspension, etc. forum. That thread typically provides a lot more information on each setup than the more appearance-oriented 'aggressive wheel thread'. But for what it's worth, my 17x9.5 RPF-1s with 245 tires barely fit without rubbing, so expect to do at least a little work.

ASP standard issue seems to be 18x10 with 285s, and IIRC those will fit easier than the 275s...

The EVO has been serviced and yes, i added the wing, yo! as well, but since I can't make up my mind about things, i bought an extra trunk lid. In case I decide to switch back to the subdued 'sleeper' good looks of the wingless EVO, in 15 minutes I can swap trunk lids. i was so dead set on having a wing, but the wingless look kinda grew on me....

Driving impressions. Done two autocrosses on the E85 and this car is a handful. Once I figured out there's a rev limiter on the launch, and I tweaked the clutch to suit my taste, it's like an amusement park ride. I took my wife in the passenger seat at the last event and after launching like the car was shot out of a gun, she almost hurled (for real, she got nauseus).

The other observation is I'm not as fast in the EVO as I am in my S2000, so seat time is going to be required. But I don't care cuz this handful is so ridiculously fun. Just the launches alone make it worthwhile.

And lastly, everyone who takes a run in this car gets giddy like a schoolgirl afterward. It has an intoxicating effect on even the most seasoned autocrossers. Especially those who come from Miatas.

Glad you like it. They definately are fun little toys. I think the giddy as a school girl comes from just trying to keep steady in the seat while in a turn when boost hits. I've had a few folks ride with me at Road Atlanta say it's funny how they're pinned to the door on corner entry and then thrown back into the seat on exit.

First time I actually launched my at an AutoX this year, first thought was "that was fun, lets do it again!"

Quit Auto Xing & get your RS out on the track, then you will see how much quicker you are then the S2 (Sorry, Iam a bit anti Auto X. I hate running for a minute & sitting for an hour

BTW, Add your sweet RS to our thread please. Honored to have you
