Thanks for sharing the results of your experiment, JW.

Have you tried the 275s on the rear? Do you expect any rubbing there?

I think I'm going to have to buy a set of V710 275s since there aren't any good, affordable 255s available. Hoosier are pretty sticky, of course, but I can't afford two sets of them per season. My Rotas have 35mm offset, so I should be in about the same boat as you.

So how do you know you're getting rubbing? Can you feel it, hear it, or do you have to inspect the wheel well? What's the worst-case scenario? Can it break something?

I haven't run 275s in the rear yet. I might tomorrow, but the forecast says rain, so I may stay on the RA1s.

As for the rubbing I have had, the first time I had it (Rosecroft), I heard it, but it was only very briefly and only on one run in one turn. When I changed tires, I saw a couple of quarter sized marks on the fender liner about halfway up. The second time (FedEx), I didn't hear anything, but the marks were a little longer.

Stay tuned...

Ran 275 V710s on all four corners today. No rubbing at all this time, but I was getting a lot of wheel spin. From a pure handling point of view, I think going with the big front bar was the right thing to do, but I am getting tired of the wheel spin. If I had one of the newer cars with a front diff, it probably wouldn't be an issue, but I am beginning to think that I need to soften up the front end. I should have DA Konis installed for the next event though. Don't know whether they will help or not, but we'll see.

One last note on the 275s...the 275 710s seem to be a happier tire than the 245 A3S04s I ran last year, but I'm really not using all 275, more like 255 I'd guess. If Kumho had their 245/40-17 available, I think I would go that way instead. But since I have the 275s now, those will have to wait until next season...

Well, since there's still no sign of 245/40-17's and I haven't heard great things about the Hoosiers, it looks like 275s for me, too. But even if they're only effectively 255s, isn't that better than 245s?

Thanks again for the update.

The 245/40 would be a shorter tire than the 275, so you would get better acceleration and a lower CG. It would also (presumably) be a lighter tire. That's not to say it would definitely be a better choice, but I'm thinking it might be...

Has anyone tried the 275/40/17 710s on the stock Enkeis? I just bought a 2nd set of Enkeis for my dedicated auto-x wheels.

I am a fairly serious auto-crosser. The main reason I bought an '05 Evo 8 is to take a stab at a few national events next year in AS. I'm trying to get the car set up this year. I've done 2 events so far and I absoultely love the car, even completely stock.

You might be better off with a lighter set of wheels. I have a set of H&R spacers if you want to play with offsets in front.

I want to go to an autoX in my 05 MR. Will the alignment specs be the same for this model? So far, all I have done is a Blitz DTT - I don't think that would be called a performance upgrade

Correct, turbo timers are legal for Stock.

AFAIK, the alignment settings for the MR would be the same as the earlier models. In general, for stock class autocross, you want max negative camber/max toe-out up front and min negative camber/max toe-out out back (within factory specs). From what I've seen on this forum though, most people have not been able to do much better than -1.8 camber up front, even though -2.5 is the factory specified limit. You should be able to max out the other alignment settings though...

I've decided to try out the 245/45/17 Kumho V710s on the stock Enkeis. Tirerack was out of 255/40 Victoracers and I need tires before my next event on July 9th at Packwood, WA.

I've done the front end camber alignment also. Does anyone know if crash bolts are available for our Evos? This would legally give us the ability to gain some more camber.

I'll report on the results of the new setup after the event. Peace.

What makes you think crash bolts would be legal?

Sucks when you have to settle for V710s...
