Thunderhill times
Thunderhill times
Hey everyone. I haven't been on the track for awhile in my EVO due to the fact that a tree fell on it. -No, seriously it did
- I was wondering what other times people were pulling up at Thunderhill in their cars, since I unfortunately haven't been able to drive it up there for four months. The best I could do then so far was average 2:15s throughout the day with a completely stock car, and some Pirelli PZero Nero street tires in the usual CCW with cyclone. I just hope I haven't been out of the game for too long, and have all you new EVO owners whoop on me!

We all just got back from TH. We ran CCW with cyclone both days. Fastest times were:
Robi, 2:03.xx (RRE chassis setup, RA1's, Buschur Stage 4 Power)
Wayne, 2:08.xx (Yokohama slicks, full exhaust, Works flash)
Me, 2:09.xx (RRE chassis setup, RA1's, exhaust, flash)
Aaron, 2:12.xx (I think), RA1's, stock 1 week old car

You bastards with your race tires!
Sounds like some pretty good times. Is that Aaron Bitterman driving the Evo? I thought he bought a Miata. -He was gonna check out my Evo back last summer, but my wheel fell off on the track. LOL- I was gonna be out there with you fellas in my Pro-7 over the weekend, but had some other plans. Nice to finally see the Evo being driven like it should. I would love to see some vids!
Aaron got into the 11s per the AMB timing system.
I believe Brandon with the Silver EVO and stock tires/suspension was in the high 10s or very low 11s (have to check the results when SpeedVentures posts them). He has a downpipe, exhaust, and ECU flash.
I squeezed in an 11 at the end of the day after trying a new line from the S2000 guys. This was also with stock tires and suspension + a few of the common basic power mods.
This will give some of the stock tire and suspension guys some times to crush at the next Thill day!

What sort of power mods are you guys referring to? I know of many, but since I've always been stock, I'm thinking about possibly getting some in the future, as we all know 4th and 5th gear suck big time in the Evo. -In comparison to lower gears
- Also, what do you guys suggest for street tires? I've burned through a number including the stock ones, Pirelli PZero Neros, and Toyo T1-Ses. -the last of which are horrible, btw- Now I'm back on the expensive friggen A046s. Tread life has been decent, averaging around 7 events if not more per. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, FYI, do NOT use Porterfield R-4S pads on the track... i burned through a brand new pair at Infineon in only a few sessions, and I was going easy on 'em too!!!

My power mods are:
Dynoflash mail in flash
3" downpipe and exhaust
Intake
IC pipe upgrade and Greddy Type S BOV (not really a power adder)
I consider these to be the basic power mods that every EVO should have
The stock tires were pretty good for being stock street tires, I guess. They held consistantly through the entire session. Consistantly non-grippy like a street tire.
My next set of tires for the stock rims will be Toyo RA1s since I have another car to drive. If I had to drive the car around everyday, I think I'd go with the Azenis Sport simply because they're cheap. I don't need so much grip driving to work and back... especially with AWD.

I also had a couple bad track experiences with R4S's. They're a street pad so I don't know what I was expecting. I ran through a set in 2 sessions at Thill in my Supra, and burned through another set in 1 day at Portland in my S2000.
I run Carbotech XPs now and they go forever on the track!

Right on... I'll try those. The stock pad actually worked pretty well too. However, brake fade could become a problem. Also, I upgraded my brake fluid to full synthetic of course. I went through about three stock front pads before transitioning to aftermarket. If you want to do a lot of track driving at once, R4-Es from Porterfield are pretty good. Since my rotors were completely torn up after the beating I've been putting my car through, I didn't want to change pads again before rotors, so I put on enduro pads.
It was especially fun on the street -skreeeeeeeetch- but on the track, they bit nice and hard! Give 'em a try if you're crazy like me!
