Added cage bracing, worth it?

The last thing on my list is the addition of these braces between the main hoop and the rear hoop. We had not planed to add these, but I'm thinking the additional strength to the rear hoop, and the protection from to the passenger doors angle would be worth it. Of course the negatives is the added weight. Is it worth it?

That cage in the picture isn't legal for any road racing in the US as drawn. You must have diagonals within the main hoop.

Additionally, that brace from the floor to the rear strut we believe is worthless. Justification is that it runs in parallel to the frame rails and body of the car. A better location for that tube is from the rear strut to midway up the roll hoop where the bend and door bar node is.

We have diagonals within the main hoop, this is not the actual design on the cage. Thanks for the input on the location. So your suggestion is to move to the location like this picture?

If money is not a big issue, i would pick a cage from CC.

CC FIA approved cages are supposedly crash tested designs. If you pick a cage from them and FIA approved, i wouldn't change anything on those. But at least you can check out they blueprint for cages as it was mentioned above.

Rob

here is one FIA approved Grupe N cage for rally from them to check out for a time being. They do an excellent job with cages also a very reputable manufacturer.

actually they are not that bad at all. I dont know exactly how much today will cost all together , i would say around for the Evo X $4500.

For the install they do require documented welding sample, before install. They do send a sample piece. And the installer have to weld it together and send it to UK to let them check out the quality of the job and strength. Then you get approved to install it. Also fully documented. Then they will send you a approval for FIA standards.

BUT you do it once with this route... I am sure many of racers already know what i mean...
They are also light as you can imagine. I really do like they cages, well worth every penny.

Very nice cage! Few things, your harness bar tubes, I would have them go all the across. From our accident, that tube kept the main hoop from completely flattening (it was in tension, so the main hoop didn't bow out farther then it did). So having it dead headed in the middle can mean your x braces could be compromised very easily in a side impact.

Love your door bars! Ill be doing something similar on our next pikes peak car.

i am not a cage builder neither a scrutineer. so doesn't matter what i think
i just showed you a fia proven cage design.

if your scruteneer approves it, that is the only thing matters.

Gussets to the main hoop X will be added, this will close of the harness bar nicely.
