Road Racers perspective: High Oil Volume in catch can

I need a little help from those who road race their cars. I did my first test & tune on the car. It's got a new 2.4 on 28psi. Mustang Dyno read 532awhp & 500tq.

After one 12 minute session, the catch can:
* was overflowing: half E-85 & half oil
* My dipstick read 1.5 quarts low

I am learning there are not many 2.4 road race cars out there???? Found this difficult since my purchase was based on a proven well planned build. Apparently I am leading the way on this.....?? Doubt it.

Solutions: Please help!
* Bigger outlet on head -10. Current have -6AN. This is supposed to release crank pressure and not force as much oil through??
* Much bigger catch can with duel filters.
* smaller gap ring? I currently have large gap rings. (last option due to expense)

I don't get anywhere near that amount of overflow in my catch can @750whp on e98 (2.3L). Almost none of it is oil. Being 1.5 qts low after 12 mins sounds like you might have an improper catch can set up or another underlying problem.

post a picture or something of how you have your catch can routed.

any other oil-related mods? bigger pan, accusump?

532 Mustang dyno power is a lot for a track car, perhaps a dry sump is in your future.

Its probably a mix of water/fuel that seperates from the oil.

do you have a kiggly hla? that will limit the tremendous amount of overflow oil to the head.

a pressure test will help in letting you know if oil is getting into the cylinders

Thanks for ideas. I am told my build used big gap rings. We want to increase the head opening to 10 and run larger catch can. I still worry about WHY so much oil and gas water/vapor in can. I understand all E-85 cars have higher vapor/fuel in can?

Replies:
* Will do leak down - thx
* How do you tell If rings set properly? Tear into it?
* added motor pic in first post
* Have kiggly and stage 5 head - no additional oil upgrades. Guess I should get AMS pan?

I hate stuff like this. Car is amazing. Want to keep it that way.

Thanks for support. Will take more suggestions if have any.

ah I know that car too well.

Enlarge the side vent on the valve cover. That part of the valve cover is much better baffled and won’t see as much oil. That back port will see all kinds of oil, more so on full throttle pulls.

Did you get a lot during the motor break-in? I got a ton during my 1000 mile break-in period. Haven't been on track to check the blow-by, but the past 500 miles have been way less, and its more water vapors, very very clear, as opposed to the thick dirty milk liquid during break-in. I drained mine after getting tuned last Friday and got maybe 2 ounces.

I have a couple questions....

Why does your motor have big ring gaps?

How many miles are on the motor now?

it is assumed, not known for certain. generally if it has this much crank case pressure, the rings arent sealing well (i.e. large gaps). the only people who would know for sure is the guy(s) who built it.

Switch from a vented can to one pulling vacuum from the pre-turbo intake tract. Also might be oil pooling in the head and sloshing out the ports but I thought the evo 8/9 block and head didn't have this problem. If it does you might need to move your ports inboard and vertical.
