Radiator and oil cooler reliability.

I have a question about the reliability of the OEM radiator and oil cooler of EVO 9 MR and if my engine can handle the beating with hotter engine temperatures.

I was doing my research and I ran into an old video of sports motoring that they ran different cars including EVO 9 in tsukuba for 20 min straight and it never had problem other than the tires was roasted at the end of the session.

That video showed the stock EVO with not modification.

I currently running the car with basic mods and I was debating whether I should run the car with OEM oil cooler and radiator or upgrade it before running it to road atlanta.

Any inputs on this? My car is pushing 311WHP. Will it handle 20 minute endurance session with the increased power? There's a topic that I read that the Cyber Evo was just running with OEM radiator, I do not not if that was a valid info or not.

OEM radiater is fine as long as the track has straights to cool. Rally racing is different with many low speed corners and debris - dirt ect. OEM oil cooler is fine also. I run 385whp in 30 minute races. No worries. Oil pressure is another story. You will see pressure drop in hard right hand corners. We solved it by cutting the oil pan and lowering it and the pickup 2 inches. I run about 6+ quarts in the modified pan and the oil pressure light stays off now.

It WILL BE my first time on road course. My car is my daily driver so I want to make sure that I can go home after the session and drive it to work the next day.

I just want to make sure my engine will be safe and the only thing I need to worry about is brake wearing out or my tires.

I do not have cooling issues at all. Or should I say not yet.

I've been running my IX in 100* weather out here in CA with the OEM radiator and oil cooler without issue on road courses since 2009.

291whp/300tq on 91 octane.

I agree with Golgo, if it isn't broke......
If you do switch I would recommend a CBRD 1".
I would also recommend the RMI 25 additive to help cleanse your system and a flush. I couldn't believe the amount of debris it removed just using the additive for a hundred miles.

That's the radiator I was actually looking at if I buy one. Thanks for the input

Thanks, I feel a bit relieved now.

You will be fine. I've run OEM coolers everytime I have driven Road Atlanta. With that said when is your event? The "local" track Evo's are hard to come by. I dont live far and its always nice to meet another Evo guy! This weekend Balrok, ReaperX, and myself will be at Road Atlanta for the PCA DE's.

Cheers,

Craig

Agreed, I ran my stock Rad for years until it sprung a leak, then it's just a forced upgrade.

I have had no issues with stock radiator in 100+ degree days. I use the heater to help cool things off after a session though. My 400 hp Ev0 9 had no issues with the stock oilcooler either, but my Evo 8 has oil heating issues after 20 min sessions.

People tend to want our radiators because of the look- and hose alignment etc- plus the added clearance-

in regards to cooling- our 1" was tested again the OEM and two other brands- and our radiator performed best in all aspects- the factory radiator finished 2nd-

Once I put in my BBK Full and all of my other mods including a tune I'll be installing my CBRD radiator. I think I'll need additional cooling once I start pushing the limits of the stock bottom end, etc.

Thanks for the input guys.

I have 2 years of autocross experience but I never ran in a track. I'm from Vegas and just recently moved here in Florida and the closest track here in the area as far as I know are Road Atlanta and FIRM. My ECU needs to be retuned and and I needed new rotors and pads and after that my car would be ready, may be around July or August.
