2015 tire discussion

So whad ya'll run and like. Rules are bound to change yet again for Nasa so we're all playing the waiting game like every year. I ran the 265 R1S's this year and I liked them over the R6's, however they did start to give way after about the 8th lap in blistering conditions. Which is better then 2nd lap like A6's.

Hoho doesn't have our sizes yet (still) for the new compounds so I can only find lightweight car reviews of them.

Maxxis is looking more and more interesting, esp at $250 a tire for 275's. But would it be soft/fast enough to keep up. I think Joe ran them this year but he's on a little more unlimited build/rule base.

Slicks are spiking as ever before in price, but they are still the overall winners.

i have been running A6 for TT. i already stockpile a set of A7 and have another set coming for next year

my one friend is running maxxis. i don't think they are fast enough for TT even if you get power points back. they might hold up better for racing since they dont drop off like super soft tires. Maxxis contingency is much better also, only need 3 in class to get two tires per day. don't know if that will stay the same for next year.

Finding 3/4 tread slicks now that seasons have ended, ~150 a tire which isn't bad. We'll see what Maxxis does next year but I agree they won't be fast enough unless you got a ringer. Ended up winning a BFG tire in the rain on Saturday so I may sell that if i go the slick route - 265/35/18 S if anyone's interested.

But to a better point, how is it that honda was only one who replied to this most important topic for us racers, or do the rest of ya still live on jack stands for the moment?.

Been running on RS3's for a while. Still a great tire for the money. Was really wanting to get a set of NT01's for this upcoming season but the new Maxxis RC-1 has my full attention.

Speaking of slicks I was on tirerack today and was just looking at some Hankook Z214's and noticed all their sizes bigger than 245 are gone. Anyone know what happened?! Are they on back order?!

Ya I read somewhere they were backordered, not sure why though. Could be the TD product line taking over?

Ya everyone who's been running NT01's has been raving the RC1's, a bit faster and cheaper sometimes.

I ran Hankook TD's and Hoosier A6's all season.

I'll likely run the same next year unless I win a set, then I'll grab some A7's to try.

Would be nice if NARRA decide to go back to Hoosier contingency again
Can't use those pirelli slicks in other series without taking huge penalty.

Same goes for the Mich slicks. Those porsche fronts look PRIME for our cars.

Maxxis RC-1

Checked on the RC-1 what do you all think of running the 275/35R17? A bit shorter than stock??

I got the last two complete sets of the Direzza Z1 265/40r17 last year from tire rack

George

That size caught my eye, too. Only a tiny bit shorter than the 245/40R17 size that I use for Auto-X in the STU class.

Would be a fun way to try out a higher class locally without having to buy 18" wheels. They won't be at the same level as the Hoosiers, of course, but most of our local competitors don't run fresh A6s at local-level events anyway.

Maxxis has the section width for the 275/35R17 listed as 10.8", but the 275/35R18 is listed as 11.2", so the 18-inch version is still a bit wider.

used A6 is still a lot more grip than new 100TW tires.

Thats what I keep coming back to as well. I'd guess on an AX course they'd yield the same times as NT01's since that's the class tire they're in. So basically an untreaded NT01 with slightly better overall grip during the life of the tire?

So stable rules for 2015 unless ya'll are running TTB, but I don't think anyone is. Now we wait endlessly for the contingency...sigh lol.
