2015 STU Discussion!
Since STU guys are probably the only ones who would replace a
stock clutch with another
stock clutch... I've got a deal for you:

I plan on going but my evo is stock. Trying to get another evo owner to come down who's in ASP. It will be our first time to a PRO event. I'm sure it will be humbling experience, but I'm excited none the less.
in for this discussion... i'll be running pseudo-legal STU *locally only* this year for the evo while continuing to campaign the Mini in HS.. the Mini's got f'ed over a little with the introduction of the Fiesta ST's, but that's a different story.
I've wrote the seb claiming exactly this - a lot of boost buggies are dropping out of stu altogether.. they just don't seem to care anymore. plenty of discussion about it on rrax.
anyway, with approval from my competitors to run in stu locally, i'm excited to get the show on the road. the 4th place stu driver is in my region, as well as a few other very competent drivers. my illegal mods don't make material difference time-wise i believe, so it will be interesting to see how the car performs compared to those guys. question - what are you guys running for brake pads? i run stock pads in the mini but i always feel like i don't have enough stopping power in the evo... probably because im autoxing the mini so much. i think the car has ferodo ds2500s right now

I had HP+ on my car for the last few years, and they were great with new Dunlops, but on Rivals and as the Dunlops cycled out a bit, the car was horrible under braking.
I suspect the initial bite on the Hawks were throwing the ABS computer into some type of ice mode that seriously compromised the otherwise excellent braking performance.
I swapped over to some DS2500s at the end of the year and problem solved. It's great again. YMMV. Brakes, like tires, tend to need to be tailored to different driving styles. If you're gentle on the brakes, you might be better off with the HP+, I tend to brake late and hard, so the ABS issue was killing me. The DS2500s seem to be a little less grabby which ended up improving performance for me on the whole.
Kyoo- You just need to push the brake pedal harder
I've never driven on the DS2500's but I've yet to see someone complain about their lack of bite or stopping power during an auto-x. Maybe try rebedding them first and see what that does for you?
I picked up a set of Girodisc S/S pad midway through last season and I have been very impressed with them. Im told the benchmark was the 2500's and they're supposed to be quite similar but can't comment on how they compare obviously.

For me, the HPS was not enough and the HP+ was too much (not to mention annoying as hell on the street). I ended up on the Stoptech Street Performance pads and I am happy with them. Never tried the Ferodos though.
I have been on 2500s since beginning and I found them a bit too grabby, especially when on the colder side. Once they heat up, it wasn't as bad. Since I am just about to replace them, next in line are Carbotech AX6 with hope that they will not be as grabby as the Ferodos.
Final grip was also not to my liking, but that might be me being used to R tires for a long time. I was able to get it to the ABS engagement once they are hot, though and that is as far as you can expect from them.
Once this snow goes away (they said it will happen, just hard to believe it) I will be swapping rotors and pads, which will give me another data point.

Butt Dyno- I've driven my buddies car on HP+ and didnt care for them too much. I used the Stoptechs in the past and liked them however last season I replaced them for the Girodisc S/S pads and they are so much better than the Stoptechs IMO. I will admit that my Stoptechs lasted forever and the dust wasnt too bad but my S/S pads just have so much more power to them. Between initial bite as well and just overall braking power they just seem so much more performance oriented. The Stoptechs were quite linear which I liked as it was easy to modulate the brakes and they served me well but after using the S/S pads feel like the Stoptechs would feel like turds now.
I already said I'm going! Doubt if I'll be competitive in ASP but it's free and I'm sure a good learning experience

link to those girodisc pads? hows the dust & noise?
I used a set of stoptech's on the front of my car for one event last year because I could not get another set of carbotech xp10 fast enough. They were horrible in comparison to the xp10 on my SM car. Initial bite was softer and pedal effort was higher. For a street tire, I can see this being ok since their ultimate brake force threshold is lower than my rcomps... but if you are looking for more bite with less effort try the xp10 on the front. For the rear I use the ax6, which might be a good in between option on the front for street tires.
