Heat Cycles

I purchased a new set of hoosier A7s mid summer. I have used them at two autox events. The first event saw 6 heats but the second event where you could get in line and run ... towards the end of the day I was nearly hotlapping the car so maybe 15 heats (about 1/2 mile each).

My question is what constitutes a heat cycle? Does running them at a 6 heat autox event mean 6 heat cycles?

What bout if I drive to the event (less than 50 miles) on these tires? Is that considered a heat cycle?

I've always considered a run a heat cycle.

Yep I as well. Technically a cycle is anytime you get the tire up to operating temp (140 for a7's) and allow it to cool to ambient temp (85 or whatever it is where you are). Where you see people cheating this is when they use tire warmers between heats, thus keeping the tires AT operating temp throughout the day, counting at 1 cycle.

Well that kinda sucks.... I thought the grip was starting to fall off by the end of my second day of use but I was hoping otherwise. Sucks to have plenty of rubber left yet optimal performance is long gone.

So 21 runs? Might be off a little, but A7s are much better than A6s used to be for fall off. Unless you beat the hell out of them (overdriving, lot surface is not tire friendly, etc), they should have plenty of life left.

I haven't been in the autox scene for a few years but talking to guys in the Hyman GTR they say a6's slow down after 30-35 runs if you're going for a national level pace. Then those guys run them locally for another 30-40 runs.

welcome to hoosiers. They are super fast the first HC. the next few are decently fast but after about 10-15 (depending how hot you got them) they really start to fall off.

The super serious guys will run a sticker set everytime they want to put a FAST lap in.
