Toyo 888r?

I did a search with no result. I've never been a fan of the Toyo 888, but I'm hearing the 888r is decent. Has anyone with an Evo tried them?

888r is the same compound with new tread designs, from what I've gathered, it get similar complaints to the 888. And the NT01 is still faster.

Okay. I was wondering because the magazines are raving about it (advertisers?) and some people are implying it's the second coming LOL.

Hoosier A7? That would be expected.

I've had them on my watch list for some time now. The price is very enticing but the only guys that I see giving good reviews on them are vette owners and other rwd platforms.

Same here. I now of a couple TA guys that ran the old R888 exclusively. They seemed to do pretty well, but nobody else I know has ever liked them.

I have a buddy with an Atom that wants the R888rs. I've been trying to talk him out of it, but he's dead set. When it comes to tires, some people are just stuck with what they want, kinda like how so many people swear by Michelin Pilot Super Sports, or whatever they are called. My friend's Focus RS came with them and it took FOREVER to get him to try something different. Now he's seen the light, though.

Agreed. But try to get people to quit using them... it's like trying to get them to give up their first born.

They're a great street tire, that's about it.

The only guys that should be running R888Rs in Time Attack should be Toyo sponsored cars. The cars I know that are sponsored and run them don't really like them and aren't competitive.

Ive never run them but had friends with them. Their issue has always been heat cycling out early in AX duty. Pretty good when fresh but quickly become less than current top 200tw tires.

I do seem to recall they handle high heat well without getting greasy though which I dont think tires like the RE71s like.

Why do vette guys seem to love them? Is it simply just the sizing they come in makes them a good choice or is there something about perhaps that chassis that makes them more favorable?
