FWIW Marc has no crash beam and the rest of his bumper is only held on with the 2 bolts underneath the hood on the top of the core support and the two bolts in the wheel wells which are going to be replaced with quick releases soon. You'll be just fine to ditch the crash beam.

Yep. That's my exact setup.

What sort of diffuser fits in those big openings in the splitter on the right?

The one on the right will be using Professional Awesome large diffusers, they're definitely large haha

Yea man I'm pretty sad that I can't offer some sort of economic way to ship these. I've been getting more and more inquiries lately so maybe I can figure something out. For now I'm stuck with only being able to do local deliveries within the Midwest.

I'll still take the DIY stuff if you end up finding a way to do that, too.

I'm still rolling the DIY stuff over in my head. I need to look at numbers again because it's been a bit but I think I'd be able to supply everything I mentioned before except the mounting brackets. The brackets aren't cheap for me to get made and require multi shop to get them made.

So what you'd get would be: the stencil the cut the splitter out, metal for the air dam, brackets to mount the air dam to the splitter blade, required rivets and washers to assemble the dam and splitter blade as well as any hardware required for diffusers, end plates or skid blocks. Mounting points will still be on the stencil but you'll have to make your own brackets to mount it to the chassis.

Better than nothing! I wouldn't mind paying for my own brackets, though, seeing how you already have peeps with the specs for 'em. Either way, please let me know. I'll be using plywood, though, since Alumalite is about $300 per sheet to have delivered to my house. I can make sizing adjustments for that, though.

Those look like they'd be a lot more effective than the smaller ones. Will they not fit on an Evo easily? I wouldn't think anyone would pick the smaller ones otherwise.

I'm also interested in this sort of DIY kit to save on shipping.

Hey Guys,

Anybody know the pros and cons of running a diffuser e.g voltex or varis vs cutting away the rear bumper and spare wheel well etc?

Ive seen both theories applied to numerous car makes and models and wondering if anybody actually has any decent knowledge on pros n cons of each method?

I am far from an expert in this area, but I would guess that it eliminates the “parachute” effect of the down and forward curvature of the rear bumper. If you look at the USDM or even a JDM rear bumper to a lesser extent, They are still at “parachute” that can trap air.

My guess is that eliminating this area, and replacing it with a horizontal lower tray, along with vertical fins to stabilize and channel the air into downforce instead of drag is beneficial in every possible way. But those are just guesses

yep my thoughts also.

Im just noticed quite a few more serious cars are going down that route.
I guess it is because they dont have a full aero floor and therefore want to get rid of this air pressure that builds up in the boot.

Phil Rothelli can probably chime in as well as Daniel O'Donnell from Pro Awesome.
Their cars have it all.
