Its pretty common for the line going to the EGR to pop off. Would be my first check.

Thanks Dallas, yeah, "we" checked all the lines and "we" didn't find anything loose. But, to be sure "I" went and double checked again and sure enough, that was the issue. Easy-peasy. ;-)

#30332 STU Thank you for your input. The STAC does not feel it is necessary for the Street Touring Category ruleset to address the definition of "charge pipe".
Interesting considering all the specificity spelled out in other places.

No sir. Plus we can only run on the stock fueling system anyway. (stock injectors, pump, etc).

How is your TC holding up with mismatched tires? Did you get a chance to test with equal size tires? Did the whine reduce a bit?

Hey man!

TC is holding up completely fine as far as I can tell with the staggered setup. I've now put in 6 events (along with some co-driving at some of these) so far this year between Lincoln, Sioux Falls and a TnT. Even with equal sized tires (245/9" combo for my rain tires) it still makes the same whine at certain speeds on the highway only.

I believe we have the whine narrowed down to the rear diff. It only does it at around 60mph +/- and 75mph +/- at light/constant throttle. It's not been getting any worse since when I first noticed the increase in sound. The multitude of sounds the evo makes - it's glorious.

throw some new fluid in there and see if the sound changes? seems that would solidify your hypothesis.

Did you upgrade your rear diff bushings to poly?

I'm going to change the drivetrain fluids soon, so I will see if that makes any sort of difference!

Yes, they are poly. The problem is, I can't recall now if the added sound was occurring on the drive down to the first event in Lincoln, or if it started on the drive back. It's great losing ones memory!

It also sucks when it's a second car and you never drive it (like me for most of the last 7 years). Compared to my completely normal DD, there are so many noises and it's really hard to remember which ones are the normal ones..

This is exactly my problem! I never drive this thing on the highway much unless I'm traveling to Lincoln. It's truly hard for me to remember exactly if the noises are new or not. That and a combo of getting older.

On a side note, up to 12 entries for STU on the 2nd of the two Spring National's events coming up at the end of May!

Then that's where your whining sound is coming from. I had the same problem when I upgraded the rear diff bushings to poly. The driveline whine would start around 60mph. I hated it so much, I switch back to stock driveline bushings and the whine went away.

We had 16 STU drivers signed up for our last local event and 21 drivers signed up in the event #1 before that. Luckily STU is a super healthy class locally.
