Wing with dry carbon trunk.

I happened upon a dry carbon trunk. Is it really worth the weight savings seeing how I'm going to need to build a structure to mount the wing, anyway?

I mean...the OEM trunk IS showing signs of lifting at the front of the mount plates (at lowest AOA) ....so should find another mounting solution either way?

It's been on my list for quite some time. Chassis mount wing, dry carbon trunk with aerocatch pins so it "slips on." Haven't quite jumped on it since my wing mounts clearly come to the trunk lid, then how to design the lid so it can be taken on/off and remain waterproof.

Yes. All of that. I'm thinking to mount hood pins to the front, latches on the rear, then lift the trunk off.
But...I want to keep my current wing. I don't see how that going to be possible.
Everything I'm thinking of Has me adding so much stuff it probably will outweigh the OEM trunk LOL

Yep, basically. Which sucks because this Kog wing is awesome. But at the end of the day I'd have to get a new wing that goes elsewhere in order to utilize said trunk. However, it's also kinda cheating in a good way. As your speed increases the wing "adapts" and the angle lessens thus allowing you more top speed, in theory. Esp since most of the rules out there don't let you run smart wings. All we'd have to do is cut holes in the back of the trunk with mesh to allow any incoming air from car or top of trunk to re-escape.

I guess I can just make plates to bolt under the trunk skin and sandwich the trunk between it and the wing. Then hope it doesn't rip apart. Hopefully it would distribute the force well enough. I think I'd have to cut some of the skeleton away, though. Maybe defeating the purpose of reinforcing everything.
I'd love a Kognition or other wing, but I don't have the front aero to balance it out. I'm starting on my splitter this weekend which will help and *maybe* be enough for a serious wing?

I would NOT trust dry carbon for that kind of pressure/flexing.

I need to finalize the fitment on the trunk hinge reinforcements I designed to eliminate flex at the hinge. Once you eliminate all flex out of the trunk there's no reason to move to a chassis mount.

I would not mount a wing to a carbon trunk without considerable force distribution.

Maybe I should just order this and deal with understeer (which will get me off my *** to finish the splitter that's collecting dust in my garage ).

https://www.kognitiondesign.com/prod...-chassis-mount Also, I know they aren't pretty... but I've seen these on trunks and figure it's an easy direction to go, for those of us that don't have resources to fab brackets/mounts for other types of fasteners. Not looking at this size, just posting the link as an example of the type of latch.

WTF so they are selling them again? I thought they were discontinued. Would be nice if they sold the stanchions and brackets to convert the wing into chassis mount if desired.

I'm not sure converting may be possible. I think they move the mounting points on the wing further out because the pass through holes for the mounts are at the end of the truck/outside it. You'd have to run some awkward spacer to make up the width difference unless you want to put your trunk on pins and cut slots in that.

I talked to the guys over there, they said they have a new method for making them. Now that they got it all sorted after building them again. I'll be sending payment ASAP, before they change their minds

It wouldn't be rocket science to design the spacer I'd think.

With us wanting the bottom of the wing as smooth as possible, would it be a good idea to add hardware?
