I went into Tustin Mitsu last Saturday looking for a (backup )Evo brochure, and they told me that Mitsu hadn't sent them any, but was I interested in a stock Lancer? Ha.. err... no? So I wouldn't hold too much hope for them. No promises, but try Browning Mitsu in Cerritos. They seem to be against gouging, but at all the dealerships, it really appears to depend on which sales rep you talk to. You might try Tuttle Click, but they were at 35k, according to one guy there, and you might also have a try at Costa Mesa Mits. I dunno what their prices are. I think we have more coming to SoCal cos they expect (rightly so, I'm sure) increased demand.

I talked to a guy at Tustin Mitsu last week when I went to go pick up the brochure. He said guaranteed by Feb 10th and they arent accepting deposits. I'm pretty doubltful they'll have it in 3 days. Everyone else is seeing delays until march. Anyhow, the salesman said first come, first serve. Line starts at 8:30 AM. I'm one of the 4 people in their list of seriously intersted. I'm thinking more will show up. THeir first batch is 7 EVO's.

Yeah, the guy I talked to at Tustin said they'd be getting them on Feb 11. I agree, I just can't believe that they're somehow getting them next week when everyone else is getting them in March. In fact, having spoken to about ten different salespeople at about seven different dealers, I'm having trouble believing anything any of them promise without the presence of cold hard cash - seems that most of 'em really just wanna pull people in and keep them wriggling on the hook (or they're just very poorly informed). Also I think there might be some confusion over delivery vs. 's "official launch date"? Maybe.

I reckon that if you get down there on Monday at 8 or whenever they open, you'll get to put down a deposit, maybe. I dunno why they wouldn't let you do that at least. I mean, I hope I'm wrong and you drive one away that morning but you might wanna call and get a guarantee from the sales manager (or whoever the biggest cheese you can get on the phone) that they aren't already allocated (ie that the guy you talked to wasn't blowing smoke). You gotta have options...

Incidentally, to me it doesn't matter cos I put down my deposit on one of Browning's initial allocation (of 9, I believe). My sales person indicated that the car (red, high wing, no sunroof ) would be arriving in Port Hueneme on March 3rd, which seems to be pretty accurate info, and she didn't have anything to gain by saying so at that point (cos she'd already sold me the car ) Obviously stuff slips, but it checks out (given that Hueneme is where brings in their cars, at least).

I dunno how far you're willing to go (quite far, I'm assuming from the enormous, awesome collection of pics from the HQ parking lot ) but if you wanna check on the shipping status, you might try calling the MMSA processing office at Hueneme. Drop me a PM if you want the number.

March 3rd? They might've misread it. 03-03? Meant to be read as March 2003.

As far as I know, dealers aren't given that kind of exact information because of so many variables in the process. It happened with the 350Zs. Dealers misread 09-02 to mean September 2nd, when it actually meant Sept 2002.

True, could be. But then the dealers are also telling people that they'll have cars in February which isn't true either. Lots of other people have been told "first week of March", as well. I'm just passing on what I've been told - as I said, it's fingers crossed, basically.

rollo,

went to check last night (didnt wake up and head over there early in the morning because i suspected the guy was wrong by saying feb 10th).......they guy now says first week of march. he says if my name is on the list (which it is) they will call me at least 2 - 3 days in advance before it hits the lot. Two weeks ago there were 3 names on the list and they have 7 cars allocated. Dont know how many on the list now. He says no deposits are accepted...it's first come first serve with a slight markup. If indeed there is a markup you guys can have my spot on this "list".

I stopped by on Monday night cos I was going to the Costco across the road. Couldn't resist. I talked to a guy sitting in an office and he told me March 17th (or thereabouts). And he also told me that they didn't have any brochures, which seemed to be a lie but whatever.

I didn't stick around to ask Something about that place kinda bugs me. I daresay they're marking up to 35k, that seems to be the OC standard.

Just stopped by Torrance Mitsubishi on my way home and saw their 1st Evo, right off the truck. Looks damn good in the metal... Markup? $15K. Yes, a total of $45,000. Whoever goes for that is a complete jackass.

You guys crack me up!

Even IF all of our EVOVIII's don't sell right away, that's perfect!

The pure marketing and draw value of having a few EVO's in the showroom is enough of a reason to tack on a mark-up and keep'em here.

So, for those of you who think that dealers are going to drop the mark-up in six months.... Keep on holding your breath
For the rest of you... call me (909) 910-6674... we've got three left now and another eleven on the way.

Please note that this gentleman has posted his "business card" in every forum he thought applicable. I assume if we had a restroom, the walls separating the stalls would contain the same information.
