The Rebirth begins....
I similarly had a hole punched in my transfer case cover when the block broke. With luck you'll find the internals are ok with just a bunch of small aluminum pieces tucked off in the corners that need to be cleaned out. I took the diff carrier out and carefully cleaned everything before reassembling. Check with KevinD to see if he may have a used cover to sell.
Good luck,
Mark

No doubt between working 6 days and the car on Sunday I have been beat! I cannot stress how much I appreciate the help from Chris and also Laramie last weekend on this project. It has truly been a learning experience to say the least. Hoping for the end of March but I've waited this long so I'm not concerned it if takes longer.
looks like cylinder 3 is going to have 4 bent valves and possibly need new guides as well. good new is since the piston didn't break apart, the intake manifold, turbo, and cylinderhead itself are all ok.
Made a little progress today...
Coated parts by SPC in Arlington, TX (MAP ported exhaust manifold, Mil.Spec R2 ported intake manifold, & Megan o2 housing):

Installing the timing belt tensioner on the new block:

MAP Stage 2 shortblock (2.3L, 10.5:1 pistons, MAP rods, & MAP headstuds):

MAP Stage 3 ported head (stock Evo IX valves):

MAP Stage 3 ported head (MAP beehive valve springs):

TA DA!

We got this ***** running today
The engine bay will look 100x better once he gets the exhaust manifold heat shield coated. I'm really liking the red theme though (valve cover, intake manifold, intake pipe, & battery tray), it's a great contrast to the silver paint.
For those out of the loop:
MAP 2.3L 10.5:1
MAP stage 3 ported head
MAP EF3 turbo
