If you're going to autocross and daily drive on them too, I would budget for 2 sets of tires a year. If they last longer than 6 months - then consider yourself lucky. If they are still good at 6-months you could sell them and put that money towards fresh rubber instead of wearing them all the way down.

A dedicated set of autocross tires should last you an entire year in most cases (unless you go to nationals in which case you might want 2 or 3 dedicated sets). If you're like me, and and need a new set of daily driver tires every year anyway, then you're still buying 2 sets of tires a year.

Bottom line -- just plan on 2 sets a year to be safe.
How many daily miles? I have a combined 7k daily miles and 120+ autocross laps on my Z1's and I still have 4/32" left in the middle...and I know you don't run at Mineral Wells much. What are you doing to your tires?! You must have a healthy commute, I have some buddies at my old job that got upwards of 15k out of Z1's purely daily driving.

That is unreal! I got 6k miles out of my RS3s only street driving, before they were almost to the wear bars. Normal street alingment.

I'm debating between these two, but really 6k miles is pathetic for only street driving, I was dissapointed. Not too mention they hum louder than any tire I've heard before once worn out, not sure if the Z1's are the same or not?

7K miles in a year is pretty light so I can see how you made them last so long.

I got about 10K miles out of them including track and autocross. Also a pretty agressive front camber of about -3 degrees which may also have contributed.

Yeah, I have only put 23k on my car in 3 years. I am also running -3.1 in front with 1/16" toe and -2.3 rear with 1/8" toe. There was some wear due to the toe but I flipped the tires and got that little bit extra out of them.

After my first time at Mineral Wells on my Z1's they sounded like SUV off-road tires. I have heard from other however that after a couple hundred miles they get loud. At first I thought it was transfer case whine. But now after everything I have done I cannot even hear my phone much less tire noise.

R888s wont last long at all. I used them on the miata and didn't even get 4 months out of them. and contrary to the video, the sidewalls are soft as sh**, and wet traction is poopoo just like the RS3's

Yeah but the benefit far outweighs the inconvenience. It is nice getting out of a turn and not hearing wheel hop or the wha, wha, wha...

I may have landed a job today, so a second set of wheels may only be weeks away...

Yes at first I thought it was the transfer case whine and I'm like ahh ****!

Then I realized it was the tires, they're literally that loud. They just hum and whine like crazy.

I am just going to have to give the RS-3's a try. Having a new set of wheels soon, it won't be that big of a deal, I will have one set with Z1's for DD/winter autox and the RS-3's for summer autox. Thanks for all the input guys! I think the only real way I will know it to just give it a shot like always!

Bumping this up for feedback on the RS3s vs Star Specs.

I've been using Star Specs since 2008 on five different cars and have always been pleased with their performance. Wanting to give RS3s a shot in the new Road Tire class and leaning towards 275/35/18.

I've run 245 and currently running 285 RS3s. They are hard to beat. Put a little bit of overpressure in them to make up for the floppy sidewall and your good to go. I seem to have good luck running them around 40ish hot.

What size wheel are you running. On a 10.5 the 275 will be perfect and give you a little more side wall rigidity.

I just got my RS3's and will be autocrossing them next weekend. I've run Z1's and can honestly say that they are great for about 3 runs and they start to overheat and get greasy. Might just be me. After two sets I am ready to try the RS3s. I will say sidewalls on the Z1's are way stiffer.
