anyone else hear about this law? sounds like something mcgreevy would do, but i've never heard of it.

You're right. I got out of a similar kind of ticket, 89 in a 65. The ticket is doubled in a 65 mph zone, so my fine would have been $400. I don't know what they would do in your situation.

It's nothing. I'm willing to bet $5 over paypal that his ticket is less than $500 and he gets no more than 4 points... it's just a criminal speeding ticket. 40mph over on the freeway is nothing really.

what you want to do is go toc ourt for it but cancel the court date as many times as you can because here in CA you can get out of the ticket if the cop isnt there to tell his side of the story. the longer you prolong the court date the harder for him to show up on that date.
assuming its the same over there

Since you got lucky enough to get pulled over by a trooper you will be reamed. My brother got pulled over on the parkway for 90 in a 65 but the trooper put 85 . he had to pay i think somewhere around 450 and eat 2 points. It all depends on the prosecutor and the judge that day buddy. Oh yeah and the fact ur insurance might go up should be fun too. if its you first ticket it might help your cause. do us all a favor slow down.

40mph is nothing really? It can kill in masses. It is also deemed as wreckless driving. Thats like saying you're driving by a school zone going 65 (40mph over) but thats nothing.

Anyhow, the ticket is 5 points...ive never gone 40mph over before. I have been pulled over many years ago doing 75 in a 55. The prosecutor brought it down to a 11 over (2 pt ticket). 4 points, isnt really something to say its nothing about. Now he has to go to driving school and hope to god he doesnt get pulled over during his one year probation.

I am almost positive New Jersey has changed this so that it's IMPOSSIBLE for something like this to happen.

Plead NOT GUILTY. Go to court. Hopefully you can work out a deal. DO NOT just plead guilty and send in the money. Make law enforcement work for their money.

i agree that 30 over on the NJtpk is not that hellish. Traffic is usually flowing at 80.. and i know i do 80.. in the sight of troopers and they do nothing. They are looking for the guy doing 95.

if youre doing 65.. you're causing traffic flow problems...

anyways.. good luck. and like the others said.. fight it.. take the day off of work, and go to court.

go to court and just plead to a lesser fine. alos in most cases u dont need a lawyer if they dont want to budge on the ticket reschedule it and then get a lawyer.

i read in the paper that they are doubling the amount of troopers on the turnpike and parkway so u guys gotta watch out!!! i come home from the pkwy everday at rush hour and traffic is going smoothly sometimes at bout 80mph.... i dont go faster then that bc i really cant and the cops like to hide out in good places too...so its a chance i dont really take...

also i dont kno if u read this b4 what i posted but ill say it again lol...

my grl got pulled over on the turnpike and the cop gave her a ticket for speeding 100mph in a 65mph and got a ticket for careless driving...thats like 4 or 6 points all together...she never got a ticket b4 so theres a slight chance they might knock it down a little bit but u never know.... i dont know what she's gonna do b/c her court date is next week... um.. yea insurance is a b*tch and it'll probably go up $100+ a month for 2+ points... i guess the best thing to do is go there and talk to the prosecutor and see if he can work something out for u.... you gotta admit u were speeding which is the truth and they might knock down a point...plead not guilty n c what happens but then again the judge can not beleive any of that and slap you w/ a higher fine... talk to the prosecutor 1st.... what town were u in? my friend was in Bordentown
